Am I gaining anything by spending that much more, considering most ranges in Socal aren't any longer than 100 yards and I shoot .308 (big holes)?

Skunk,
Since most of your ranges are limited to 100 yards, I think you know the answer.
Just the other day at our range, I stuck my foot in my mouth.
We were at the 100 yard range and I noticed a guy was shooting his Chandler Custom .308. I kindly asked if he shot beyond a 100 and he said no. Then I asked why did he have a Chandler for that. He replied, "because I can" and proceeded along his way.
So if I see you at the 100 yard range with a Swarovski spotter, I'll simply admire your good taste and fortune.

I have a Wind River and couldn't be happier. I would be the first to admit that the Swarovski is superior in every measurable way but the Wind River is sharp as a tack at 100 yards.
