No, this is not some kind of spoof.

Anyone encountered any of these yet? Field reports? The family wizard mentioned these in a phone conversation last night, but hasn't actually had his hands on any yet.

An expanding 12 gauge slug?

Not too much money for the overly curious.

I wouldn't go out of my way to shoot these things but its nice to see the technology being proven in the event that lead is no longer an option.

Nice, now make them out of hevi shot and you'd have a very powerful slug.

Test them on what? If you're gonna make gel, measure, and take half a dozen pics, I'll buy you some rounds. If you're just gonna bubba up some milk jugs or old furniture and type about it, then no.

Those expanding bladed one reminds me of the old Black Talons, but a lot more effective. Waiting for the screaming to begin from the Left.

We need Box O' Truth on these things.

I didn't think steel retained its velocity as well as lead did... which would make it worse at long range than regular lead.....it would be interesting to see how these did perform in some gel or something.

I was curious about what groups could be expected with these, so I e-mailed the company yesterday afternoon asking if they had any pictures available the revealed groups at set distances. I just got their response this morning.

About the grouping of hits - it depends on the barrel (smooth or rifled) and the choke. We don't recommend to use back-bored barrels with increased barrel diameter. With a standard smooth barrel with cylinder or full choke the group in 50 meters will be 4-5 cm (about 2 inches). With the rifled barrels the results are better. In longer distances (100 yards) the results vary with different guns.

I'd be interested to see what groups of 50yds+ would look like, and whether or not the slug would have the tendency to yaw and keyhole at further distances when shot out of a smoothbore (like a sabot is wont to do at times).

it would be interesting to see how these did perform in some gel or something.

Here you go. Tests (http://www.ddupleks.lv/EN/articles/show/tests)

Looks like the metal blades come loose from every model. I'd be very curious to see the diameter of the recovered slug. It looks like the thing sheds its expanding portion in the first couple inches and then acts as a small, lighter penetrator.

Yes, I saw those tests... but I was thinking of something a little more easy to compare to a standard slug... with measurements and a control.

I'll pick some up and test them in 10% gelatin. Here in CO, it might be different - 8k foot elevation where I'll be testing.

Still, for giggles....

cant really trust manufacture tests on something so extreme. look cool. anyone else think steel slugs maybe a little dangerous? or wear out your barrel or even burst it? seems the smallest bit of fouling could be bad news.

I don't think it will wear a barrel, it looks like it has a plastic gas seal, and a plastic collar toward the front to prevent the steel slug touching the barrel.

These things are interesting. They are meant as what we in the US would call "brushbusters", for pig hunting and the like.

According to this test, they work, too. Unlike rifle bullets, they plow right through heavy brush and keep going straight.

http://www.ddupleks.lv/EN/articles/show/m32-bush-test

If they're non-lead, they'd be legal in California, too, where the brush is thick and the pig hunting is good -- but mostly in the Condor zone.

Couldn't find it on the website no rthe box of ammo, so i emailed them:

For the loads that are available in US, the muzzle velocities are following:

Monolit 28 - 445-450 m/s (1480 fps)
Monolit 32 - 425 m/s
Hexolit 32 - 425 m/s
Dupo 28 - 420 m/s

FWIW.

I have seen some photos of hunting with these slugs and I came to one conclusion very quickly. I do not want to be shot with one of these!
