Does the Colt Detective Special or the Cobra use a transfer bar system? Thanks for the info.

No. The older Colt "D" frame guns use the tried and true, time tested hammer block system.
The late Colt SF-VI/DSII/Magnum Carry design was a transfer bar system.

There is an internal hammer block, but it is not a transfer bar.

To add to the above, this does not mean that the DS and Cobra are unsafe. The firing pin is on the hammer, but the hammer can't make it forward enough to hit the primer unless the trigger is held back. The hammer block works well.

Thanks for everyone's explanations. I now have a better understanding of the system Colt uses.
