Insurance has been discussed in many threads .. sometimes with regard to difficulties finding a company .. that actually will!

It is time I covered my stuff properly and specifically .... but a few questions.....

What are companies out there who are gun friendly? And who have halfway sensible premiums.

How to value your gear? I went thru my inventory, as realistically as I could ..... if anything being hard on myself .. it was still around $10k .... !!

So .... those who are insured, and happy with their arrangements .... GIVE!!!:)

Check with the NRA. One of the perks they offer members is a program to insure the guns that you own.

Been with the same Ins. Co. since I was 16. [yes long time] Local independent agency, the policies through State Auto...vehicles, dwelling...etc. I have had good service, and when my personal rep finally retired, I got with her and the new rep " to kinda get to know one another". I put a lot of value on customer service, I like a good deal, but when I went through a flood for instance, cash, hotel reservations made and the like...between phone call I made and the appearance to where I was 40 min later. [would have been sooner but flood had traffic messed up]

I forget what I per thousand , competitive tho'.

Honest this is one area I don't know about poilitics of my Ins co. At one time some mumbleysomething years ago my mom worked with the original partnership, before she married and I was thought of. Original fellas big on guns, hunting and the like...don't know about State Auto in particular, the independent agency is pro gun ...hunted with some of the fellas.

I also have the NRA dealie too.

HTH

USAA, if you are eligible, has great rates, and they do not require any special riders for your firearms. They are covered the same as any other household tool.

Here is a thread from John Ross about insurance, I thought it might be relevant:

Paid additional premiums for gun insurance? Read this (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28524)

Here is the direct link to the article he is referencing:
What to do about insuring a gun collection (http://www.john-ross.net/insurance.htm)

You don't say whether you own or rent your home-regardless-if you have decent homeowners or a rental policy you can get appropriate coverage. I use Allstate as I have been with them since I was 16. They are very competitive with rates. All I did was photograph my inventory and my Fort Knox model safe, provide a list with stated values, and I am covered. My premium increase was minimal because of the safe and a monitored alarm system. It doesn't hurt to go the NRA route as well-a good back-up just in case. I believe the NRA might provide some modest coverage just for being a member. Shop around-it doesn't hurt to compare.

Farmers Insurance will cover up to 10k for $70 a year. That is only guns destroyed in the home by fire, theft etc.

Does not cover guns in the field.

No serial numbers, no listing of guns. Just buy the rider and pay the money.

They will cover antique or higher value guns, but they then need an apprasial.

10k isn't bad. Of course the deductible applies, but with that NRA automatic $1000 coverage you should be covered.

I have extra gun insurance on my USAA renters insurance. The extra coverage cost $90 a year extra but I feel a lot better knowing that they are covered.

I currently live in military base housing and my guns are kept in safes... but in case of fire, flood, earthquake and heaven forbid theft, I don't own 1 weapon out of my 23 that can't be replaced with money.

USAA didn't bat any eye whenit came to the extra coverage. If you qualify for any of thier services, I highly recomend them!
