loading some lyman slugs in AA trap hulls and using a roll crimp tool

I need to trim about maybe 3/8" of hull - could I add an over powder wad to raise the slug a bit and not need to trim?

would it go in before the wad/shot cup or inside it

Those lyman slugs with the recommended load of Universal Clays are very sweet shooting slugs -

If you are using a plastic shot cup wad, any additional card filler will have to go inside the wad.

Putting it under the wad would invite the risk of leaving one in the barrel.

Overpowder wads worked safely in the old paper shells because they fit the straight-wall paper shells perfectly. The same cannot be said of the tapered inside of a compression formed AA hull.
