Shotgun storage...

So, I've got a quick question.
I plan on getting one shotgun. My dilemma is that I want a good way of securing that firearm without having to buy an expensive, bulky safe. I found that V-line sells a little safe that can be installed into a wall. It looks perfect, but it costs more than the shotgun that I want to buy.
I want to find an inexpensive way to secure this gun. I also don't want a big, bulky, unattractive safe or storage locker. Are there any other options out there that I missed?

As long as it is for storage and not a quick release sort of thing for HD you could just use a bike lock through the action (assuming it is a pump action) and lock it to something immovable.

Homak used to make a between-the-wall-studs steel cabinet for long guns too. That might be an answer, they weren't terribly expensive. I'll look around and see if I can find it out there.

ETA- Doesn't seem it's available any more. Can't imagine why, it looked like a good product. Here's an ad- http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ZAP310-1.html
Might be something similar out there, I would hope...

Someone posted a pic of a vertical single gun rack that mounted to studs and not only prevented little kids from getting to it, but made it pretty hard for a smash and grabber to get it also.......a google search might yield results

I took this idea from this guy on his blog.
Gun Grabber shotgun lock mounted in a closet behind clothes + a Life Jacket shotgun chamber lock to keep it from being operable. Check out his blog.

im getting this setup for my large walk in closet in the master bedroom. The closet and the bathroom which you have to go through to get to the closet also will have keyed alike locks for when I'm not there.

I knew that Mossberg used to sell something similiar, but I couldn't find one.
This will keep the gun secure without taking up a lot of space.
It looks like I can get a shotgun without breaking the bank and cluttering up the bedroom. This is perfect!! Thanks!!

what use is a locked up HD firearm?
Some of us have small children. My kids are gun safe but I cannot trust their friends to be. If one of them gets into my closet and gets to the gun it could be tragic.
I unlock it when I'm home as long as no other kids are in the house. A gun lock is a tool. Use it appropriately and it's not a handicap.

Does anyone know if the Mossberg Loc-Box fit the long rifle too or just shotgun?

There was a guy on another forum making a sort of cabinet that had a hinged dressing mirror on the front of it. It was built specifically to fit between wall studs. It was not secure, but certainly looked like it was just a wall-mounted mirror.

If you are not worried about getting to it in a short amount of time like a hunting gun, then do as LPL says and put a trigger lock on it. One step further is to remove the barrel and store it somewhere else preferably hidden. Barrels are easily removed on most models.
I know what people mean when they want to keep guns away from small children. I have three larger teens at my house who all have been trained properly to handle firearms. I still keep them locked up in a safe. Do whatever gives you peace of mind my friend.

That’s when you slip your house gun into the holster on your belt and leave, OH wait you can't do that with a shotgun...Bummer.

I've been thinking of trying something like that. A little pricey, but the gun isn't going anywhere.

Why not just stand it up in the corner of your closet?
