Hi, Folks

A bit of housecleaning has left me with about half a milk crate's full of gun rags. They're almost all published within the last two years, so don't have any collector value, but the landfill option seems like a waste. I take my other used reading material to the 'library' down at our marina -- the visiting cruisers grab the "Time"s and "Newsweek"s like pigeons go for popcorn and the harbormaster's husband sneaks out the car mags, but I don't want the general boating population muttering about a 'gun nut' in their midst. (They already have plenty to mutter about with the weird electronic things I keep dragging down the dock and installing on my boat.)

Aside from using them to fashion "a collage of tasteful, weapons-themed placemats to make your pro-Second Amendment guests feel right at home" (ah, Martha, we miss ya already! :p ), or employing them in direct SHTF situations (yes, I too have noticed many of the articles proclaim "With no failures in nearly 12 rounds fired, not to mention the effectiveness of the tactical pink neon grips, side-mounted sights, and seventeen-tone finish plus the taxicab-sized rollmark make the DeathBlaster UltraXtreme POS well worth its $3799 list price blah blah blah" -- right next to an ad from the manufacturer), anyone have suggestions as to where to place them to best effect, perhaps generate some good will, or maybe even <GASP!> enough dough for a box of range fodder?

I cut or peel the addy and drop em at local laundromat, VA hospital, etc.

I don't suscribe to many anymore. Especially since there is so much info on the net, but I did take a G&A mag. subscription to help out a charity a few weeks ago. I still occasionally buy one at the grocery store and I do have a few lying around.

I too hate to throw them away, so I give or loan them to my gun loving friends.

I think it would be a good idea to drop them off at doctors offices etc, but I would not take them to a known anti place because they will be thrown away and you had to haul them there. Just throw them away yourself instead of doing this.

Hospitals work too. Just be sure to put a "good houskeeping" or similar ragon top to comoflauge the goodies. Lots of people would be happy to find them in the waiting room but typical hospital peon types at the desk would be skeered.

You don't have any large used book stores around? Bookman's is large here, and I buy everyone elses gun porn! And I get rid of my other stuff that I don't need, like the free Car and Driver subscription.

I drop it off in the student lounge of at a very liberal college, right next to Mother Jones News. It's usually gone in a week. Thrown away? Perhaps ... but maybe it's found its way into the hands of a budding firearms enthusiast.

Interestingly, someone seems to be doing the same thing with old copies of that libertarian party newspaper.

Try a gun store.

I drop mine at gun stores that have a sitting area. Be sure to ask the owner/manager first.

Does your local shooting range/club have a club house?

Library, doctor's office, dentist office, coffee shop?

If you can't find anyone to take them please recycle them.

If your community doesn't have a good paper recycling program, bug them until they do.

MattD: You're on my dunglist (not really) for suggesting eBay. I took a look over there to see if people really post old copies of gun magazines. They do. But no one bids on them. Except me. :uhoh: :p

Everyone: Thanks for the tips. I now have a plan that'll keep 'em in circulation: Bring 'em to the next Bay Area THR meet and give 'em away there! :D
