The server that handles FFF and another board was hacked. The boards are down to make repairs and do maintenance.

It will be back.

Jim V, do you know about when FFF will be back up?
It's been down sence Friday.

OS, hopefully it will be up sometime today (Monday.) The server was hacked not for malicious purposes*, but simply for data storage space by outsiders. This has caused not only FFF but the other board on the server to run slowly at times. Once everything is cleared out, we should be back in business, and running faster than we've run since we made the switch to vB.

*Malicious purposes or not, it was still an invasion of private property. I hope that Chris (server owner) will pursue this to a suitable conclusion.

45King, you observed, "The server was hacked not for malicious purposes*, but simply for data storage space by outsiders."

Would you please translate the quote into English, or am I being dense?

This is the message Chris, the owner of the server, emailed me earlier today:

We are having serious server issues... I've been working on it for the last 4 days or so.. 2 hrs sleep a day is catching up but am working at getting it fixed. I hope soon.. Thats all I can really say right now.

Chris

ps - feel free to pass this on.

The hackers were using bandwidth for storage, such as pictures, movies, programs etc. They didn't hack in to destroy the boards or the system, they were stealing 'space'.

Chris had to order some parts and due to the weekend and holiday it's taking a little longer than expected. We should be back up soon and have 'speed' as well. :)

Thank God for THR, I got my 'gun' fix :D

Seems that these hackers were using someone elses bandwidth for their own purposes, which sounds like STEALING to me, no matter what their ultimate purpose or "reason" was. It strikes me that "stealing" is actionable, meaning it's against the law, to say the least. Also, isn't that why we go to all the trouble and expense involved in hiring and maintaining the police for, to act against those who break the law??

Nice to run into yu again, how have you been?

That's what Miss Demeanors said. And it's not as easy as "busting" the people who did it. It's near impossible.
