Hi. Does anyone here know the changes of the Model 14 regarding the dash-number significances? For example, I know a 64-3 is MIM-less but some of the later 64-4s aren't and all 64-5s use some MIM parts.
I'm looking to get a 6" Model 14; what are the quality changes I should know? For the Model 14, what dash number signifies the introduction of MIM* parts or other cost-cutting moves? Thank you.
* This stuff I want to avoid the most.

I don't believe that's true with regard to the Model 64s. The 64-5 was introduced in 1988, but MIM parts weren't used until 1997. The 64-6 came along in 1998, so all -6s have some MIM parts, but only the very end of the production of -5s had them.
With regard to the Model 14, MIM parts were apparently added to the end of the 14-6 production, so some -6s have them, and all 14-7s (introduced 1997) do as well.
All of the above from SCSW.

Is there an online resource for this latest info? The "handloads.com" chart stops at -4.

And in MOHO. The mim problem is a non problem. NASCAR uses mim parts, Air Force newest fighter ,the F35 uses mim parts, and so on and so on. I feel the worrying about Mim parts is worrying about a non issue. Just my opinion and like belly buttons every one has one. I also own around 15 S&W's.
