Lots of people tell me that evenwith modern metals and processing it it impossible to make a break open revolver that will last long at all due to "inefficient" structural strength in the locking mechanism and hinge.

if the latch and hinge is a huge inefficient structure, why can T/C build break open single shot pistols and rifles chambered in cartridges with 5 times the chamber pressure of the lowly 45 schofield and have them last for decades with no real issues?

Because the locking mechanisims for securing the chamber and breech in a T/C are entirely different from the breakopen revolver. Look at the bolt in a T/C; compare that to a revolver--and you'll have the answer to your question.
