Absurd school rule

A co-worker just informed me that his son was EXPELLED from school this morning for asking a school mate what kind of gun he hunts with. Expelled for three days that could of been 10 days. What in the hell is this world coming to? Brainwashing children that guns are inherently bad is the wrong thing to do. This just pisses me off way past the boiling point. I urged him to take this battle as high as he could. Mention of the word gun gets you expelled, mention of the word F**K and you stay in school. What gives?

Expelled for three days that could of been 10 days.
Pretty sure that is a suspension. "Expulsion" generally refers to a semester or more.

Regardless, have your buddy take a lot of deep breaths and then very, very calmly and politely meet with your school's administrators.

what gives? the education system is designed to do all the thinking for the child, and will punish the child for the parents attempts to encourage said child to think 'outside the box'.

Make a big stink. Get this story on every single news outlet possible. Start locally. Once it runs on local TV or local newspaper, then get those links and articles to national outlets.

Neal Boortz is a syndicated radio talk show host in Atlanta who loves to put these kinds of stupid over-reactions on his show.

Sunlight is always the best cure for cockroaches and other vermin.

You should be in there immediately demanding an explanation from the Principal about it. If he won't do anything, then go to the school board and yell at them.

Oleg, it's listed in my profile under my name there. Expelled meaning suspended. I did submit this to Neal Boortz.

Overreaction by school. It's one thing to talk about killing people and veiled threats of violence. It's quite another to talk about killing critters for the table. I think the school principal doesn't know how to appy the principles of zero-tolerance.

Have a discussion with the school administrators. Record it if that is legal in your state.

I bet he wouldn't have been expelled for talking about Deer Hunter 3D, Quake 3 or the latest Medal of Honor expansion. There is nothing harmful or illegal about their activities so as I see it shouldn't this be unconstitutional under the 1st ammendment? Government suppression of free speech?

If they were threatening someone OK, but hunting rifle shop talk? The educated ignorant are at the top of my list of people I dislike.

These reactions may be justified, but let's get a source a little closer than third hand to the event.

We've come a long way from the days when I took a semester of riflery in lieu of PE my Junior year of high school. We've come an even longer way from my 8th Grade social science teacher (WWII Vet) who said, "The Second Amendment is proof our government trusts its citizens. Any government which doesn't trust its own people doesn't deserve any trust from its people"

Last year my daughter needed to do a high school term paper on WWII, and chose as her topic, "Rifles of WWII." Her teacher would not permit her to photograph my WWII-style rifles (M39 Moisin Nagant, Enfield, M1-Garand, and Mauser), and use photos of their disassembly, loading, and firing She was permitted to use the Internet and books only. Of course, the notion of my accompanying her to school when she gave her oral presentation and actually SHOWING kids the rifles was totally out of the question.

Pity

Get your own site set up at Yahoo, etc. to host the pics. :D

Easy way to avoid this kind of thing is to pull your kids out of government school.

HiFidelity,
Have your friend contact the ACLU i'm sure they would be more than happy to help your pro-gun friend and his son out with this violation of their rights!

hmmm allowed to be out of school for hunting, but not allowed to talk about it? I know it's in different states, but still. Oh well glad I'm not in public school oh wait I go to a liberal college. I guess we all have to take our stand somewhere.

I have been thru this in Fla my son wasn't suspended but the school board did send a nice lady from child services to talk to me about "traning my son with weapons" for telling his friend that I had taken him to the range the past Sunday.

My Grandson returned to school this year excited about learning to use a muzzleloader, and was strongly encouraged NOT to talk about it with his friends. Don't know what the school will do if He does talk about it, but I am tired of having my lifestyle vilified by a bunch of liberal idiots. The kids are being molded to fit into a Marxist state like ants in a mound. I don't know if I should tell my Grandson it is O.K. to tell His buddies about shooting, and stand by to defend Him, or to keep quiet and stay out of trouble. By keeping quiet, he is, in effect, agreeing that shooting is an inferior sort of behavior. Before long, they will have Him feeling guilty about it, which is probably part of their intent.:banghead:

There is no doubt in my mind that many so called "educators" want kids from what we see as normal backgrounds to feel out of place. I have always been proud of my Appalachian, and deep South roots, don't feel that I take back seat to any average on brains and ability, and when someone infers that I am a "redneck", or "hillbilly", I just grin. Kids bend under pressure, however. There are kids all over the place, the ones with their pants held up by Heaven only knows what, talking funny, jerking around like they have palsy, all things that would get a kid in this family in hot water, and these are acceptable in a school where my Grandson can't talk about shooting and building muzzleloaders with His family.
It is obvious that someone wants to create a specific type of product within the school system, and obvious that this is a product lacking all the self reliance, independence, courage and integrity that built our nation. We ought to be a lot more angry and more scared than we are.

I posted my experience with DCF and the school board about a month ago. My son has not gone to the range with me since. I feel that their "molding" has taken something away from my family, that I will never get back.

The title of this thread is "Absurd school rule."

Exactly what IS the rule that was allegedly broken? If the kid didn't threaten anyone, if the kid didn't bring a gun to school, if the kid merely asked a buddy what he hunted with . . . unless the school rule bans utterance of the word "gun" I don't see what grounds for suspension they had.

I see grounds for a successful lawsuit - if the facts are as presented, I'd think lawyers would be circling this case like sharks smelling blood in the water.

Yeah, sounds like a good time to reconsider how beneficial that school really is for the kid's education. Have you read anything by John Taylor Gatto? If not, I strongly suggest that you find one of his books.
