Don't know how rare these are I bought this new many years ago, shot my 1st 25 straight with it. The rib is standard not a add on, the stock is trap style also.

Never knew they existed. Cool! I don't normally think of a pump, let alone a Mossberg pump, as a competition gun. That's neat!

I've got one of the barrels, you used to be able to purchase them separately. Never did get the correct buttstock to go with it though.

A friend of mine has one of those. His has 2 stocks & 2 barrels; Trap & Skeet so they must have made a few sets that way till you could shoot either of the clay games. Those barrels were as good as any ever put on a trap gun! I know one custom gunsmith that managed to fit one of those barrels to a Remington 870 with a custom trap stock and it would flat bust the clays. Interesting shotgun that is hardly ever seen anymore.

They were as good as every put on a trap gun??? Spare me. They were mediocre at best. Some one fitted a barrel to a 870?? What have you been smookin?

I have only seen one of those guns in person and that years ago.
It is a regular Mossberg 500 action with a very tall Simmons rib and a high comb stock to match. I don't recall any claims about the quality of the barrel itself, but if a shotgun barrel throws an even pattern and centers it where you want it relative to the rib and bead, what more is needed?

I remember those. How is the barrel choked?

I'm sure they were as good as a trap gun ever needs, though...:)

Trap's real requirements are mediocre at best, and any barrel that's not bent will work fine. Balance and handling are different, of course, but also personal. I never could shoot a BT-99 worth crap, and neither can a lot of others, but they remain popular.

You can run into some oddities, though. A guy here thought he would take up trap upon retirement. So he bought an 870T and gave it a try. He got very discouraged, fewer hits on clay pigeons than he was accustomed to on game. Before he quit entirely, somebody got him to pattern and mike his barrel. Turned out he had a 30" cylinder bore barrel, the "Full" marking notwithstanding. He got it replaced and went on to become the state Senior champion.

Mine has a screw in Accu choke. The rib does say Simmons on it.

Does it distort your vision when you look along it?:D

(I know, different Simmons.)

You know that high rib along with the stock lets you balance a going away bird on the rib and poof its gone, was very easy to get used to but I lean hard to skeet, shot trap off and on because of friends that shot with us.
Cheapo Mossberg but it would make my day to beat soon of the people shooting with much high end shotguns, this thing shoots where you aim it.
Rib does have two beads target style also.

Tom :D
It is funny how people get hung up on price of guns in competition ?
Just becasue its a Mossberg don't mean it can't dump some clays , thats for sure :) . I had a Mossberg 500 I could take out more Doves with than my Remington 870 any day of the week and did . It just pointed better for me , the rest of function is just elementary my friends . :D
Same thing happens in SHARPS RIFLES COMP on a daily basis , Pedersoli wipes the arse of the real SHARPS guys consistantly :D
$6,000.00 doesn't make you or a gun accurate , fact . :D
Nice gun Tom , cool to see one .
