Mods for a Mossberg 500A

I just got a used Mossberg 500A for a home defense gun. This shotgun has a pistol grip. I don't seem to handle the PG well and want to change to a normal stock. I have looked at the Hogue overmoulded sets and wonder if anyone has tried them or other normal stock replacements for the 500A.

All the stocks I know of for the 500 work OK. The Hogues seem to be very good.
Cabela's has them on sale. You may want the shorter version.

I have Mossberg's shorter youth stock on my Maverick 88, reduces Length of Pull by about 1". Made a much better "fit" for me.
Mossberg calls it the "Bantam" stock.

The standard length of mossberg stocks is very long, and quite uncomfortable for a lot of shooters. I happen to have very long ape like arms, so they work great for me. on the house gun (mossberg 500 security model) I put the Bantam stock on, so my wife could shoot it easier.

any normal non PG stock is fine on the mossberg. due to the safety location, PG stocks interfere with proper and effective use of the safety.

I did order the youth model from Cabelas. It is shorter and should be easier for my wife to use.

I had to get a longer bolt to attach the stock. The pistol grip I was replacing had about a 1" bolt. The Youth Model needed 5 1/2". I got one at the local hardware store. The fore end also bound up against the barrel at the very end of the ejection stroke. I cycled it several times, disassembled to see where there was rubber scuffing on the barrel, reassembled to see what part of the fore end lined up with the spot on the barrel when it was scuffing, disassembled again, trimmed slightly on the area that was scuffing, reassembled, and now it works perfectly. I haven't fired it yet, but I think it was money well spent.

Yes, thanks for the report.
I also have a 500A that I bought cheap. The Action is pristine, but the furniture is a little rough. I have been considering replacing it with the Hogue stuff.
Did the Hogue increase the weight of the gun much?
