Hello,

many people think that slingshots is my sole field. But I have been collecting folding knifes for many years now and would like to present some of my pieces to you.

Nice collection. What's the one @ the bottom of the fifth picture?

That is a Frost Cutlery knife, actually it has two blades that you can open/close independently. When both blades are open, you effectively have a dagger with two sharp edges.

I believe it is no longer in production. Inexpensive knife, mediocre quality, but interesting concept.

Where'd you pick up the Franklin and did you get it from Mike or a perv?

I have the same Boker Top Lock, had it for years. I no longer carry it, but it's a fine blade...

Bottom knife, 1st (and 2nd) pic, please ? . . . .

The bottom ones (1st and 2nd pic) are a Spyderco Gentleman's knife (GREAT!) and a CRKT one (can't recall the name right now, and gotta go).

I can't remember buying a knife from a gentleman called "Mike", and certainly not from anyone beeing an apparent perv (but you never know...).

I bought most of my collector's knifes (the hand made ones) from a knife store in Cologne, and some from stores around the world (my job does involve a bit of travelling).

Jörg,

Mike Franklin is a knife maker out of the US that uses that hog with an underbite logo.

"perv" is short for purveyor, a seller of custom knife maker knives.;)

Ah, I see. The weird rules of the English language, quite a challenge for a German. Why isn't "Purveyeor" abbreviated to "Purv"?

The little Franklin knife was bought in Cologne, I love the colorful metalworks.

Wasn't very expensive, so I guess it is not hand made.

Jörg, I believe it is less to do with the rules of English and more to do with something called double entendre (French: double meaning or "double intent").

If I were trying to derive how "perv" is short for "custom knife purveyor," I might come up with something like this:

A "sexy" display of knives and/or guns is often jokingly referred to as "porn" (e.g. gun porn, knife porn). The custom knives, being of the "sexier" variety, it's not a particularly long stretch from "purveyor of (sexy) knives" to "purveyor of (knife) porn" to simply "perv."

Please understand that a) I have no standing in the knife community, so this is entirely conjecture, and b) it is entirely a product of my imagination.

Who knows? Maybe hso can confirm -- or give a better etymology.

:D
