Good afternoon. I searched and didnt find exactly what I need.
Simply, how do I remove the wood foregrip from my Model 12 for refinishing?
It appears to be held in place by a nut, removed by a spanner I dont have. Confirm/Deny?
Also, anything I should consider when removing the stock?
thanks in advance,

Yes it is held by a nut that requires a spanner. I'm speaking from experience, but on a M25 which is the same gun just not takedown. To take the forearm off the action slide you will most likely have to make the wrench to do it. You need a 1-3/8" wide by 3/16" thick piece of steel about 4 inches long. Make a notch 1-1/4" deep by 1 inch wide. File the tips down to screwdriver profile and there you go. You just need a hacksaw, file and a vice. The stock is held by a slotted bolt that scews into a reciever extension that is in turn threaded into the reciever. There is usually no issue with that other than be careful when removing the buttplate as it is an expensive original part if it breaks. Hope this helps.
I just realized that if the forearm is off the tube, all you need is a piece of steel 3/16" wide and span the nut with it, it should be able to bridge the gap, no need to make the notch.

Thanks!
Currently, everything is assembled, but not for long.
The buttplate was removed, with no issues or breakage. I had to look around for a long enough driver to remove the stock bolt, but I have that ready to go.
How do I remove the action slide from the front of the gun? It sounds (and looks) like that would be easier as far as wrench construction goes.

Dissasemble as normal and I believe you just take the screws out that hold the tube plug and magazine band. It should come off the front.

Thanks gents! I'll be starting that project this weekend...
I still need a recoil pad.
I'd like t0 buy one locally, but I can't seem to find a grind to fit anywhere in the tri-state.

Unless I'm missing something, the action slide is retained on the stripped magazine tube by three splines that run 1/3 of the length of the magazine tube behind, and a single square raised divot in front.
It appears the only way to remove the action slide (and the wood) from the magazine tube is to get the proper spanner and remove the lockring at the front of the pump.
Can someone please confirm?
Does anyone have a Model 12 wrench I can borrow? I'll pay shipping both ways. :) It would be faster and probably cheaper than driving around the tei-state trying to find a smith with one, unless a Cincy member can point me in the right direction?
Thanks to all in advance!

You are correct, sorry. I don't have a M12 in front of me and I've only been quoting from memory until now.. I've scanned the disassebly guide for you.

Hope this helps.
I modified the tool I used to take down the M25 so that it will work on the M12. It's made of a piece of fairly hard scrap steel and I bent the tips down so that it will go around the magtube. If you want to give it a try you can PM me your address.

The Model 12 forend spanner is available for a nominal price from Brownell's. do not attempt to dis-assemble the fore end without it. you will surely mar the blued steel fore end nut, possibly also mar or crack the fore end.
