It's used for making a sled out of two AK's. Those Soviets, always thinking.

Seen a picture of it mounted. The little loop at the non-inserted end hangs off the tip of the barrel. How precisely you get it on, I don't have a clue. Also, I suppose if you didn't have very much muscle or fat or padding there, you could use it as a solid sling. Not sure, but I think it was only fielded in prototype form, never really used. It would be cool to have, though, if it worked.

But wouldn't having that attached to my barrel effect the precision long range accuracy of my AK's? ;)

Actually seems like it would make a decent monopod.

Might help accuracy...
Couldn't hurt it.

If you had a free floating barrel it might adversely affect accuracy, but non free floating it would be a good mono-pod I think.

these were pure experimental ones.

for 7.62mm AKs & RPKs only 30 and 40rd "bananas" were made, and 75-rd drums.

5.45 use 30 and 45rd "banana" mags, as well as ultra-rare 75-rd drums, and newest 60rd 4-column banana mags (looks like standard 30-rd, but 2 times thicker below the "neck" (see picture below).

Does anybody know the legality of making your own 100 round Banana Magazine from 4 30 round mags ? It would be more or novelty than for serious combat.:D

I want to know more about the drum in that pic. Look closely at it, the part that would feed into the mag well isn't in the same spot as the drums you find for sale here in the States. Is that also some sort of experimental idea?

Max, if you've got a source for any of these (drums, 100 rnd mags, or 60 rnd mags) there in Russia, what are the chances of working out a deal to have some shipped to us?

FYI, there is a guy over on AK-47.net who makes 55 rounders from two 30 rounders.
Maybe if you looked him up and sent him a few forty-rounders...

I was thinking I could do it myself welding them after cutting off the bottoms and tops(I don't know what the feed area is called ?) of the 3 1/3 sections then welding them butt to butt or using steel bands welded on the outside to adjoin the sections.

Sorry, not a single chance. :( these are strictly military items. :banghead: Maybe someone with proper business can obtain a batch through the official arms purchase but i doubt that these will be legas for civilian market, even if shipped to USA. :cuss:

My initial reaction is to like it, 'cause it holds lots of cartridges and looks like a big smiley face. Then reality sets in. Honestly, I might pay $30 for one, just for the novelty, but for any kind of real world use I'll stick with the 30-rounders, or possibly even a 40-rounder. I mean, when the magazine is so big that you could potentially shoot it, that can't be a good sign.
