View Full Version : What handguns have you re-bought?

Have you ever sold a gun and later bought the same gun or same model again because you missed it so much? Have you ever bought another identical gun even though you had one already?
I had several guns that I didn't know how good they were until they were gone. S&W 586, I recently decided to buy one to replace the one I sold. Star BM, I got one and liked it so much that I bought another one. S&W 36, these just seem to appear and I have to buy them.;) Ruger Speed Six, these are good, solid guns.

I re-bought a Glock 23. Don't know what possessed me to sell the first one I owned. Go figure. :D

I bought a Glock years after selling the first one, sure am glad too, what a gun!!
I just this weekend bought the third Model 19 357 mag so far after selling the first two years ago.
I had 5 identical 1911's at one time, sold them all and bought a P14.
I had all wheel guns at one point, but just bought the first 2 I have owned in over 3 years in the last two weeks.
I used to have quantity in my gun collection. Now I want quality, and have picked up some fantastic guns lately. I am buying the "never gonna sell" guns these days.

I have not yet "re-bought" them but I will, once again, own two handguns I stupidly sold:
* Browning Hi-Power 9x19mm
* S&W 1917 .45 ACP (even kept the full moon clips)

I think many people have probably bought another of the same model they may have previously sold. I know I have.
But I did re-purchase a Browning Hi-Power which I had traded back to the delaer I had bought it from. He said he was going to keep it but about two years later it was back on the shelf.

Yeah ... guess i have ...
M-27 ...... ''rebought'' a M27-2.
Browning HP ....... ''rebought'' BHP Practical
Ruger RedHawk ...... ''rebought'' Super Redhawk.
In each case was fortunate enough (well, for me anyways) .. to finish up with better than predecessors.:)

A Colt Python, 6" blue, early model. Also a Model 29, and now looking into "re-buying" a Model 25.
Would be a lot easier if I hadn't sold them 10 years ago...
PS: Still thinking about "re-buying" a Grizzly 45 Win Mag if I can find a nice used one again.

Had a CZ-75B 9mm stolen and replaced it with one exactly like it. The police recovered it so I used it for a trade-in. I sold a nickle S&W model 29 15 years ago and "replaced" it with a blued one a few years ago. I plan on replacing a Python I stupidly sold years ago as soon as I come across a nice one.

Laugh if you will, but I keep winding up with at least one Beretta 92FS in the safe. I am on my fourth one. I always keep one hi cap around and this one is the one that keeps coming back after every bout of caliber madness that sees me getting rid of the 9mm. Cheap mags and flawless reliability seems hard to cure.
I think I'll take a hint and keep at least this one around.

I have two young sons who like to go out with me to the range on occasion so I consider multiples a must. We have 2 Ruger 10/22s and need at least one more. We have 3 Ruger MKIIs with the 5 1/2" bull barrels and adjustable sights. We also have 2 Beretta 92FS'. Wouldn't mind a few S&W 686s or a few more 1911s either.

Several...
Glock 26's, bought two of them, just never could get used to that grip angle. Then bought a 30, somehow thinking I would like it better. Dad likes it. Dandy guns, but not for me.
Keltec P-11's, bought one, loved it, fell for the hype from people saying it was a POS, bought the first Glock 26 from above, hated it, then bought a new P-11. Sold it when I decided I liked wheelguns better.
Marlin/Glenfield mod 60's, IIRC I've had 7 of them, given away at least 4, have 2 in the closet right now.I know, that's only 6, but I remember buying 7, just can't remember what I did with the 7th. Great rifle to introduce people to shooting with, and I can buy them all day for $50. Small price to pay to bring another into the fold.
We won't even get into my C&R stuff, it don't count.
In the process of rebuying another, kinda. The gun I regret selling the most was a Mitchell Sportking, and now I have a Trophy II on layaway. Not exactly the same model, but close.

Well, lost a few guns in a fire in 78.....a Remington 870 was one....
replaced it within a few months, that was Alaska and it was most comforting having several Brenneke slugs at your disposal......one of my favorite guns!! Hard to beat that Bass Trombone!
Bought one Glock 30 in Florida, thought it too fat for CCW-sold it....bought another one three years later...and, guess what, it was still fat!(DUH!) And the grip angle just was not right for me. Sold the second one too!
Went through an entire string of S&W Jay frames in the last 25 years....kept trying to find something better for pocket and BUG....no such luck...guess I'll keep this one!
Bought lots of 1911's...not to replace, but to add too the collection. Parted with many, but more will follow.
Had a High Standard 'Survivor pack' Hard chromed bull barrel .22 auto, one of the most accurate guns I have ever shot...love to replace that!
A Beretta M70's .22 was a lovely kit gun....but hard to find now!
Oh, well.....the lessons of life!!

Well, I had a 2nd Gen Glock 23 without the finger-grooves or light-rail that I sold to a guy who wanted a G23 but couldn't stand the finger-grooves; shortly thereafter, I used his money to buy a 3rd Gen G23, 'cuz I don't mind the grooves, I think the rail is a nice feature, and I just couldn't keep house properly without a Glock 23. ;)

In `61, I bought a 4" Python but due to finances and going into the Army, I had to sell it. The dealer told me that it was the first 4" Python sold in Texas. Supposedly, he had to special order it from Colt. I don't know if he was telling the truth but it was a great gun. The very first round was centered in the X of a 15 yard target. The other four were all touching. Being young and foolish (stupid) I didn't save the target.
In`65, I bought another one. It didn't have the same feel as the first and was not as accurate but I still qualifed as Expert with it. The second one cost $125.00 NIB but LEO's got a $25.00 discount from Colt. The dealer carried his own credit for LEO's and I paid the $100.00 off in 4 months. My wonderful wife knew that I could have bought a Smith for less but she knew about the first Python and agreed that we could scrimp and save so that I could get another. (In those days, I was making $540.00 per month & working a six day week. They gave us one day off, whether we wanted it or not.) That $25.00 a month for the Python sure made finances tight.
I carried it until `85 when I was forced, under protest, to switch to a Sig 220 when the department went to autos.
The Python still looks good, as I had it re-blued in `85. Twenty years of daily holster use showed. Now 38 years later, it is as good as new and still shoots as well as the day I bought it. Thirty-eight years with the same gun and 40 years with the same wife.....I think I'll keep them both.
No....it is NOT for sale. Too many memories,
John

I once sold a BHP Practical. Regretted it almost immediately, and later wound up buying another one. It's a keeper. I get to see the first BHP occasionally, though, since I sold it to a friend.
Back in the 1980s I had an Iver Johnson M1 Carbine. Got bored with it and traded it off on something else. It was a POS anyway. Earlier this year I got Ron in PA to give me his Underwood M1 Carbine. I'm hanging onto that one!

I sold my python (early 60's vintage) and my browning hi-power (with a good factory trigger) for wedding rings about 16 years ago. I replaced the python last year and have been periodically looking for another hi-power.
Sure miss that 60's vintage python though. The 70's one is just not as nicely finished.

They were about $350 for the Python and $325 for the Hi-Power. That covered the rings and an engagement ring all together.
I probably should have kept the guns and taken out a loan if I would have known how hard it would be to get a good Python again. Back then the 60's ones were readily available and easy to get. I picked up mine for about $250 a few years earlier.

In a fit of poverty, I have sold a G17 (I even threw in the extra hicaps for free :fire: ) as well as my Ruger MKII pistol.
Luckily, I have repurchased these pistols when my situation improved.
Similiarly, I have often not purchased rare or used pistols which I find in good condition and price -because I wanted to think about it -only to find them already sold by the time I went back. Some of these instances, I have had to buy 'replacement' models at far higher prices.

Twice: A Mauser HSc in .32 ACP and a Walther P-38.
Sold the HSc because the sear was wearing out -- began doubling on me. Rebought a new one a couple of years later when I got stationed in Italy and was told it wasn't legal to own anything over .32. Turned out to be poor advice; my Combat Magnum accompanied me back from my first leave.
The Walther was a real gem -- WWII mfg, accurate as any pistol I've ever fired. :what: Got rid of it because the chamber was so rough I occasionally had to shoot it to get the round out. Should have lapped the chamber and kept it. Loved the steel frame. Bought a couple of consecutively numbered P-1s in Germany about 10 yrs later. Sold them because I didn't like the alloy frames, and I met a Zoomie who thought that the rarity of consecutive numbers justified an exhorbitant price.
Still wish I had my original P-38, though. :(

S&W Model 19 or 66 with 2 1/2" barrel
Mossberg 500 (Who hasn't had a few of these?)
Ruger 10/22
1st Generation Kimber Compat Stainless
The bad thing is that I have bought or traded the same exact Kimber , not just same model, but the same exact gun 3 times. I sold it again to move , but I was smart enough to sell it to my Dad when he was looking for something new. At least this way I may get it back again. :D

There are LOTS of handguns that I have bought multiple version of, the most prominant being Colt 1911s, BHPs, 4" M-29 Smiths, Sig 228s, Smith 640s and 5" Smith 27s. I did, hovever, once buy the very same 4" Model 24 Smith .44 Special three different times. Each time, I was reminded what a miserable POS that particular N-frame Smith was and got rid of it again. I STILL haven't found another one to replace it. It was one of only two lemon Smith revolvers I have owned in the last 25 years. Every one of the other 100+ have been great. Maybe it DOES pay to be kind to old people and small furry animals.....

Also rebought a CZ-75, a Beretta 96, Glock 21, an S&W Bodyguard (38 then a 49) and very much regret selling my S&W 686 so I'm looking to buy a replacement when the right one comes along.

I rebought a standard grip Ruger Vaquero (in .45 Colt). I sold it, then bought another about 2 years later. I then bought another Vaquero in .45 Colt, but it was a Birdshead. I just sold the standard grip Vaquero that I rebought because I like the Birdshead so much better. I might get another Birdshead so that I have a brace of 'em.

I'd like to replace the Winchester 9422M that I had as a young'un.
Greetings Sir,
I happened to run across this when researching values for a 9422M I have for sale. It is about a 98% gun, with an older Weaver V7, 2.5x7, 32mm. I bought it new in about 1994. Only fired about 2/3 box of shells.
Any chance you are still looking to replace the one you had? I happen to live in the area as well, up in Black Forest. I'm listed on Bar X Road.

I bought another second generation G17, but I didnt miss the old one.
I traded my first one in on a Kahr PM9 and never looked back. I thought about replacing it a time or two just to have a little more variety (as far as pistols went, I had several 1911s, a Kahr, and a Taurus M85 - pretty much what I have now, but with a 1911 or two more and a G17), but never seriously considered it.
Then the ban died.
Shortly after 33 rounders were a stocked item at the range/store I frequent, and the owner also had a second-generation G17 that could be had for just under $400 OTD. It found its way to my house, with two 33 round magazines...
If not for the huge magazines, I might still be thinking of replacing it, but not with serious consideration.
Ironicly, I'm now considering a G26. Not too seriously, but if one comes along for the right price...

Bought a Ruger Mk I (6" bull barrel) back in the 80s doggy condition but a tackdriver. It was my favorite squirel medicine. I refurbed it shot it for a while and a new gun caught my eye (a Charter Arms AR7 pistol :barf: ) and it was traded in for it :cuss: . Fast forward to June 2005, crusing my favorite over priced gun store (Collectors) I see a famillar shape.... A Ruger Standard .22 (Mk I with semi fixed sights) with a regular 6" barrel. What really drew me to it was a price about $100 below their "normal" price for a used Ruger Mark series .22. It was in about the same condition as my first one. I checked it out thoroughly and other than some cheap plastic stag grips (they sort of suited it) and some worn blue turning to "platina" it is in very good shooting condition. I quickly put it on lay-a-way and liberated three days later. Took it to the range and ran about 100 rounds of Federal Champions through it without a bobble. I'm going to leave 'er as is for now. BTW it also shoots better than I can hold it.
Also I bought & sold 3 Rossi .38s (5 shot/3 inch) before I wised up :banghead: .

I sold a Kahr MK40 Elite 98 because I just had to have an AR-15.
Well the AR sat in the closet a lot and I CCW 24/7 so I realised the error of my ways and traded the AR for an MK9 Elite 98.
Yeah, I miss the AR a little bit, but since I actually use the Kahr daily I figured it was the smarter thing to do (of course one day I'll own another AR)

Didn't give them enough of a chance as a beginning shooter.
Rebought and resold
Kel-Tec P32 and P3AT
Never bonded with them. Wish I could 'cause I like the idea of those tiny guns.

I traded a Hi Power Capitan last year. Stupidest thing I ever did. I purchased a Standard recently to make up the loss.
I sold, then re-purchased a Beretta 92FS. The 2nd one may go however because it's just too large to carry.
I own two HK USP 9's.

Sold a stainless Ruger Super Single Six. Four years later, bought the same model.
Had a Sig 220 9mm (European style) in the 80s. Sold it. In the last 2 years I bought a 226 and then a 228. Still wish I had that old 220 back, though.

Ruger GP-100.
I have owned 10 of them over the years, and would sell one to buy another gun I thought I wanted to "scratch an itch", and then I would always buy another GP later on. I currently have three, and I think I will hold on to them this time (famous last words) :).

First pistol was a Ruger Standard Auto 6" in 1959. Sold it to help bankroll a 1st gen Colt SAA; finally replaced it with another in 4 3/4" about 35 years later.
Two M28 S&Ws in 4" bbl. May get a third one and keep it this time around. Too big for me but great old guns anyway.
Ruger 3 screw Blackhawk .357. Missed it to some extent so grabbed one of the 50th Anniversary ones when they came out.
Model 19 4". Too young and dumb to appreciate it properly and thought the recoil was a bit much with .357s. Eventually figured out that it was manageable but shot Ruger Security/Service/Speed Sixes instead. Recently got a very nice M66 which serves the purpose.
Selling guns is usually a fairly bad idea unless you really despise the piece. And I have had a few of those come through. With them most of the pleasure comes when you walk away (sort of like the wrong kind of girl friend).

I've never sold a gun.
But I caused a NUMBER of people to buy FEG hi-power clones when they were cheap and truly clones. I recall placing an order with a local dealer for three of them at once. (@ $225 each)
Later my dad and another friend bought FEG clones after shooting mine. they both set theirs up exactly like mine... I've literally gone to a shooting match with a 'clone' of my clone in my range bag. I still might buy another... even with the wierd Charles Daly rollmark FEG's are darn good pistols.

Finally getting through to me to not sell as I end up taking a loss on the sale then re-buy for more than I originally planned.
Since you can only use 1 gun at a time, still can't figure out why I need (or have needed) so many. It is an expensive past time and passion.

I have never re-bought a gun really, but I have bought multiple versions of several pieces. A couple of different versions of the Ruger MkII, and for the right price I will always buy more, which also applies to 10/22's. If I run across another P90 in good shape cheap, I will definitely buy another of those, although I am not necessarily chomping at the bit to do so. I have two SKS's, and although I am happy with the two that I have, right price on the right gun..... I would really like to buy another H&R Sportsman 999, in the worst way. I love those 999's. As far as re-buying, its possible that I may pick up another Contender one day, although again, I am not necessarily rip-rarin' to go on that.

Not really the same gun, because when I have sold something it was to get something else that was better.
Well, this one is sort of the same. I sold a 4" 686 (even though my son loved it) because it just felt too barrel heavy to me. Didn't balance in my hand the way I wanted it to. I later found a 4" 586 with the barrel lug cut down to resemble a 29. This one fits just right!

I bought back a S&W 625-2 from a friend, still have it. I usually do not buy the exact same gun back though but I do own multiples of the same exact same gun some times, usually not more than 2 though or try to have at least a difference in finish or barrel lentgh or such.
I also have sold guns such as Tokarevs but have bought another example later.
Do have 3 Russian SKS though but one is a different year and they have differences in stocks. Have 2 CZ52 pistols, 3 10/22's, 7 Makarovs and three of them are Bulgarian military. I did know someone who would own 5-6 of the same exact gun like 5 or 6 PA63's.
I guess they were a little different, they have different serial numbers after all!

It's DAWN OF THE DEAD THREAD. Okay if you should find yourself locked in your study surrounded by dead threads that now animated and want to eat all your vowels what weapon would you want? :D :neener:
I've never sold and then bought back a gun. Whne they're gone they're gone.........though I am sort of kind of looking for a Colt Lawman Mk III. Oh my god I'm doing it now also.

SIG P220 .45 ACP (03-31-95) as I sold the first one to a brand new rookie
police officer in my department.:uhoh:
More recently, 2X Colt Detective Specials (2nd series 1947-1972) that I
had many years ago.
Also, in April of 2001 I replaced a 4" Smith & Wesson L-frame 686 with
one that has a 6" barrel.
And, just the other day I bought a used but not abused (trade-in)
S&W 2.5" barrel model 66, to replace one that I had back in the
mide 70's.
And Oh yes, I bought a NIB stainless Springfield WW-II G.I. .45 ACP
too keep my parkerized one company.
I'm sure that there must be a few other's that I can't think of at this
time~!

Berretta 92's, Ithaca 37's and HKusp 40's i sell and keep rebuying like an idiot. Will never sell the HP p2000 40 cal w/lem trigger group though. for that matter I have learned my lesson. It costs more to replace the goodones, sell something else instead of your guns. Ithaca not a hand gun of course....

Of all the guns I have bought and then sold, the two I miss the most are the M4gery and the G17C. However, instead of rebuying the exact same model I will use the opportunity to get ones that correct the sligth short comings each one had. For instance, the next M4gery will have a 1/7 twist 16" barrel with a folding front sight instead of the 1/9 twist 14.5" fixed FSB barrel the last one had. It also might be a piston type too. The G17C will be replaced with a G19C for greater mag compatibility.
