I think I've seen exactly one rabbit in the past year.

I've shot rabbits down as far as the Mexican border, and up into Montana, but I don't see them here.

Where are the trophy rabbits?!?

Is a "trophy rabbit" a Jackalope?

I drove past a whole mess of rabbit road-kill on Rt. 75 a little south of Rt.20 not too long ago.

I've seen 2 way up high in the Warmsprings drainage. They were at about 7500 feet and out ran and out maneuvered both of my agile dogs. I've also seen some in Picabo, 1 fell to my NEF pardner 20 Gauge. Never mind rabbits, deer and elk are where it's at now.

I think rabbit numbers are down all over the Midwest, vs. where they were 10, 20, and 30 years ago. There was a time you had to practically fight'em off with a stick. Now, when I go rabbit hunting, I actually have to HUNT to find some rabbits!

I think it's due to predation from a surging coyote population and other predators. Maybe diseases, like the rabbit virus. Honestly, don’t know why. Maybe it’s just my perception.

Theyre kinda cyclical. Theres lots over at Mountain Home airforce base along the runway, but something tells me they dont like civilians shooting in that area. For obvious reasons, the whistle pigs and badgersget real big over there. Ive seen quite a few over in Hagermann.

There's plenty of rabbits in my area these days. Many more than last year. If you want some really good jack rabbit hunts, go out to Malta in January. Some years there are thousands just running in every direction. Last year I only saw a couple hundred. Oh, and shotguns wont put them down. They sure are strong little buggars. I shot one 3 times with a 12 gauge with #4 shot and though I am sure he had no fur left on his entire body, he kept running.
