I am going to try out a new rifle in the morning and if I like it I may hunt with it this season.

I have a CVA Wolf 209 Magnum. I am going to use Pyrodex RS FFG. I have cast some 354 grain minie bullets and was wanting some input on how many grains of Pyrodex to start with. I want to start low and work my way up.

What would you say is a minimum and a maximum for this setup?

I don't have that rifle, but 70 or so would be a low-end load for it, I think.

Don't those go to "3 pellets"? I think that's equivalent to 150 grains.

Remember: that's grains by volume, with a black powder measure, uncompressed. It doesn't translate into weight.

I got the gun used so no manual, I am pretty sure it does go to 3 pellets from what I have read.

I guess one of my concerns is because I am using such a heavy bullet in it, IT seems I had read sometimes it's less powder for a heavy bullet.

I dont have that particular rifle but I do have a old CVA blazer never used minies in it.
But had a ton of luck with Powerbelts and sabot. Used 70 grains for the first shot ever with it and at 50 yards dropped 4 inches but with 85 grains it was right on target.
But all I have ever shot out of it was Pyrodex P FFFg. dont know if this helps but there you go.
