I have a mossberg 500 cruiser. I recently acquired it from a firend in need of cash and only bought it b/c he would not take the money as a gift. It had heavy corrosion at the brazed block connecting the barrel and ring. I was able to remove it but the finish is gone and left the metal a bit rough.

How can I fix this to protect the metal. The finish is bright black. Not like any blueing I've seen though I'm no expert. I've heard of blue in a bottle; do they make it for the mossy finish. Also, should I hit the bad spots with a buffing wheel on the grinder?

Don't care about pretty - just want to stop the bleeding!

If you don't mind having one hell of an ugly gun, you can just take the whole barrel assembly, sand it down with 100 grit, blast it with Brake Cleaner, and then spray it with Duplicolor 500 black engine paint. $4 for the sandpaper, $6 for the brake cleaner and $6 for the Duplicolor, that's ~$80 cheaper than duracoat if you just want something that works.
