So Ive had my 20ga Red Label for about two years now. I love the little gun, only thing that bothers me is the auto safety. Every time I open the gun, I have to remember to turn the safety off again before I can shoot. I have missed that last step a few times at the skeet range and gotten some funny looks.
Is there any easy way to disable this 'feature'? Or just replace the part?

The auto safety can be disabled by any competent gunsmith for a minimal charge. If you also hunt with this gun you'll need to retrain yourself one way or the other.
You may want to weigh this decision carefully as a "balk" on a skeet field costs nothing but another target, an accidental discharge in the field is much more costly.....

I had Ruger disconnect mine when I sent it in for a repair. I prefer to have a manual safety for the reason you mention on the target field. Also none of my other guns, Remington and Winchester, have auto safetys so it just makes it easier to remember to always set it no matter which gun I have. As far as doing it yourself I don't know. I have had the stock off of mine for cleaning but I can't recall how the mechanism works.

I knowingly bought a new 20 gauge Ruger Red Label that had been stored in it's original box for over 10 years, including the worn out rust prevention paper. The receiver had some discoloration and the auto-safety was enabled. I purchased this gun for competition skeet and an auto-safety is a detriment. If the 4 laws of gun safety are thoroughly ingrained in you (and they should be) then you don't need an auto-safety - you are the safety. Know your limitations and make your choice accordingly.
My manual stated that Ruger would disable the auto-safety for $12.00, so I sent it to them and mentioned that the receiver was discolored probably due to the rust prevention paper failure over the time span and that I had not abused the gun for lack of care.
Ruger disabled the auto-safety and re-blued the receiver both at no charge! You can't beat Ruger for customer satisfaction.

My goodness, that is an older gun! Ruger hasn't made a Red Label with a blued reciever in a LONG time. Nice!!!:)

Red Label: Not only did it have a blued receiver, it only came with 26" barrels and fixed chokes. I acquired another set of 26" barrels with fixed Imp.Cyl. and Modified chokes that are perfect for quail.
I'm not complaining though, I did my first 100 straight in skeet with it and now it fits nicely in my saddle scabbard - a duty it shares with a Rem. 1100 Special (not field or purpose) as a quail gun.

Well problem solved. This is a very straightforward procedure. It took me about an hour from start to finish, including taking the gun apart and getting the tight little spring back in (this part takes some patience). Just took the piece out and ground off just a shade over .25" of metal and it works great. I love the satisfaction of doing something myself.
