One of my 870s has been noticed to shoot slugs to the right for anyone shooting it. Last nite we took extra, extra care to bench the gun as exact as possible under the conditions (no highspeed benching doohickies), and we took turns firing various slugs. Here's what we observed:
The least point of impact bias we got is with Winchester 3" Super X slugs, which were 2" at 50 yards and 4" at 100 yards.
Is this perfectly acceptable/normal?
Buckshot shows a wee bit of a right bias as well, but not enough to matter at all.

I don't think it is acceptable or normal. Try a different barrel.

4" at 75 yards (the limit you should be shooting slugs out of a smoothbore) seems fine... what is the size of the group?

putting all the slugs into a paper plate at 50 yards was the standard we used, this was done off-hand with just a bead.

Group size isn't that bad, but assuming he is talking about center of POI, then double that got POA grouping.

The TALO will definitely keep them all in a pie plate at 50 yards, and the groups are pretty darned good all the way out to 75 yards or so.
I'm relatively new to shotgunning with with slugs. I know my rifles sometimes have a left or right bias but it is not as exaggerated. I may be just obsessing about it for no reason, hence the question. :D
I am going to retest it after assembling the barrel and extension tube in a different order and not torquing down on it so hard. From Searching archives here I am wondering if I am tightening everything up too tightly, thus binding the barrel up just enough to make the right bias more pronounced than it should be.
Thanks again for all the help.

When dealing with smoothbores and Foster slugs think Musket and not MOA rifle.
IIRC Don Zutz said that slugs going down the shotgun barrel vibrate the barrel differently than shot hence a different POI, really any shotgun with interchangeable barrels when used for slugs are a compromise at best .
