Like the title says. I don't know how to pick a good one, and wouldn't know what it's supposed to sound like. I'll be hunting in TX at night and in the day, using a suppressed AR and eventually will be using night vision.
Help me select some calls that are easy to use and affordable. Thx

The primos lil'dog is awesome, I've called in a bunch of dogs with it using the distress sounds. If you buy it with the DVD Randy anderson tells you how to blow the calls. I have this and I recommend it, it worked for me.
This one came in to the lil'dog using fawn distress sounds:

find a johnny stewart cassette tape of a distressed rabbit and play it for a couple of minutes. you will then know what it should sound like.
as for mouth calls, i pretty much use whatever is available to me that is not also at wal-mart. i'm not picky on brand or type and have had success w/ about anything.
reason for avoiding wal-mart available calls is they are common and you will sound just like every other hunter in the field... doesn't take a coyote long 'tall to earn his phd in hunter avoidance, and sounding just like everybody else will make sure you're a victim of his education! true or not, dunno and can't prove it, but that's my theory on calls...
good luck!

I've been goggling yooutubes of 'coyote hunting'. You can hear people calling on them. When I've called predators in the past, I wasn't so loud as the videos on youtube...but hey, theirs works.
If you've ever heard a rabbit barking after it's been hit buy a car or a dogs been pulled off one...you'll never forget the sound.

you need a dying rabbit call and a howler call as a minimum. howler call is a locator and dying rabbit is a coaxer.
also good idea to get one of the combo kits from cabelas that has the dvd and a few calls. also for a good ,but cheap electronic call the johnny stewart predator 2 call is worth the $$ http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=212328 to not only get a good idea of what the calls are supposed to sound like, but it also is a good electronic call to drag with you into the field. the remote has only about 40-50 yards range and the call is not that loud (as compared to high end calls), but it works well. I like to use my hand held traditional calls to locate and bring the yotes and bobcats in then switch over to the electronic call once they get in close (200 yards or so) so as to get them focused on the electronic call and not me. also the moveable decoys (the ones that have a fur tail waving on a stick or pole are good, but read the reviews because some don't work well in certain conditions.
me i made my own little decoy that i rigged up for about 10 bucks that does the same as the expensive decoys.
