I have a B/S revolver that has a gold inlay applied to the manufacturers engraving and barrel caliber engraving. It was a liquid/powder that was available years ago that I would like to remove. Any idea as to what solvent to use to remove it without damage to the blue?

Any solvent would be fine except those that contain acids; Acids will remove blue.

Carb cleaner, acetone, mineral spirits, lacquer thinner, MEK, etc. would all work and not do any damage to the blue. You will need to remove the grips, however, as they would strip any finish off of wood, and/or melt plastic.

Not sure what the basis of the gold fill is, but if it was any kind of oil based, latex or acrylic product, those solvents should work.
