Hello Im new here and want to find out about my Smith&Wesson .357 Magnum Pre-Model 27 5 screw variation. I know it was shipped from the factory 10 4,1956 with a 6 inch barrel blue finish and checkered walnut grips.
I wonder if this is a collectors Registered Magnum Revoler?

Per The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson: The .357 Magnum Factory Registered were built circa 1935-1939 wth about 5,224 manufactured. The .357 Magnum pre-war non-registered were built 1935-1941 with about 1,400 built. During the war years the factory was involved with war production. The .357 magnum post-war / pre model 27 was reintroduced in Dec. 1948 at S. N. S71801. The gun became the Model 27 in 1957. The upper sideplate screw was done away with after S.N. S171584. This should help with your question.

You do not have a registered magnum. Registration stopped in 1939. You shipped date is 15 years after that.
