Stick Fighting: Techniques of Self-Defense
by Masaaki Atsumi

Step-by-step instructions and over 300 photographs allow the trainee to follow and learn the techniques with ease.
The ideal weapon for self-defense is a stick. To find a comprehensive system of techniques using the stick, we must turn to the East, for systems known to the West have fallen into disuse. In this book, the techniques of Kukishin Ryu-an ancient Japanese method-have been updated and adapted for use today. A thorough grounding in the fundamentals dealt with here will enable you to disarm and control any assailant.

While i wait for it to be delivered, anyone familiar with it?

Do not be disappointed when you first skim through it.
Especially the first chapter dealing with defenses against hand strikes.

It is typical Japanese martial art posing. Instead of looking at blows that are helplessly too distant to reach the stick defender, picture in your mind -along with the footwork involved with each technique; a "slipped" or evaded blow and simultaneous reply strike with the stick.
The techniques are good.

They just have to be understood in perspective and a practical knowledge of the attacker's particular technique.

I do not think the Japanese, on the whole, have yet to grasp the dynamics of Western boxing. Many of them see it as a variety of Karate.

This book is one of the best on the subject. Masaaki (Hatsumi) is the 34 Generation Ninjutsu grandmaster (Soke), and heads the Bujinkan in Noda, Japan. VERY knowledgable man with TONS of experience. Enjoy that book !
