10mm is such a passe round and Dan Wesson is a poor firearm

Wait, don't flame me. I didn't say this, my dealer did. I visited him today to pick up a copy of his FFL to do a transfer for a DW Razorback I'm buying from yotehunter here on THR. Anyway, I mention to him what I'm buying and he gets this snooty look on his face. So, I ask him his opinion of DW's. "People who have owned them don't think much of 'em. Usually, they sell 'em after only a few weeks. Poor quality". Uh-huh. Then I ask him his opinion of the 10mm round and he replies "No one makes a 10mm gun anymore." When I mention Kimber's new 10mm, he says" Kimber MIGHT make one someday." I tell him no, they're making them right now. "Well, they won't sell, no one will buy them. The 10mm is way too expensive. Even the FBI gave them up." The conversation continued along these lines for another couple of minutes, after which I just politely asked for a copy of his FFL and left. You would think that a dealer who does about 80% of his business w/ local LE would be a little more up to date on the firearms world. From everything I've seen, the 10mm is making a comeback.
BTW, this is the same guy who told me two years ago that the Border Patrol-type carry is the most popular for IWB behind-the-hip carry.

I'd like to see a study done on how people involved in a profession can be so ignorant of it.

I don't know about a Dan Wesson firearm but I do know about a 10mm auto. I would guess an FFL would sell 1,000 9mms and 40 S&Ws for every 10mm. Same thing goes for 41 Mag vs 44 Mag and 357 Mag. Now why should he get excited about it, especially since you're not buying it from him? BTW, you are buying it from somebody who bought it, had it a while and sold it. Sounds like he had a pretty good idea about it to me...

Unfortunately, probably some people won't buy one because this, ehhm, "dealer" won't stock 'em and won't even order 'em, and if you try, he'll heap you up with the bravo sierra.
Ya wonder how some folks stay in business???

10mm's on my short list, but behind a new carry, probably P3AT, after giving them time to work out the bugs.
After all, if you load and shoot .40 S&W, you've got the dies, molds, shell holders, etc, and it is an increase in power,
Weapon is in question, though, since, while I've the CCW, I doubt that a 3" 10 is all that much better than a .40, except for the fireball. Ah well, in the winter, with a coat, I could do an 11, and the AT covers summers...
Good round, and useful.
Sad to see it sold short, I think.

Call him up, tell him who you are, and tell him you're considering buying one of the following...
EAA Witness, 10mm
Glock 20, 10mm
The small Glock, also in 10mm (27? Hell if I know Glock moden numbers...)
Those are the 3 that come to mind immediately...
Also tell him that you were considering ordering a case or two of ammo through him, but since the round is so passe, you'll just get it from a dealer at a gunshow...
That should frost his ???... :)

Actually he bought it from someone who had FIVE and sold two. Puts a rather different light on it that way doesn't it?

No doubt that is true. But, everytime he handles a transfer for me I always buy $30-50 of accessories and ammo from him plus I come in other times and buy stuff. Over the past year, I have probably spent $300 at his shop in addition to the $80 of transfer fees. This time, I was planning to have him install an ambi safety. I have the feeling that the real problem is he doesn't like anybody expressing an opinion that runs counter to vast wealth of firearms knowledge.

Got a shop like that here. I have tried to buy various rifles/pistols from them, but they always manage to dork it up.
First time, I was in the market for an Officer's ACP sized 1911 in 9mm for my wife. SA was about the only one who made one at the time. The dealer talked SA down, bigtime...They were crap, Kimber was the way to go, yaddayaddayadda...I told him that nobody else made anything like it, he said, "Just get a Kimber .45 and put some recoil-reducers in it." Needless to say, I bought elsewhere.
Second time, I offerered to put a freakin' deposit down so they'd order something I wanted. No dice. They wanted to order when THEY wanted to order, not before. I ended up getting what I wanted from a gun show.
I like to support all the gunshops near where I live, but I am resigned to never buying squat from this place, as they are too durn stoopid to try to sell what the customer wants.

I have a Dan Wesson Razorback 10MM, and it is without question a fine example of the 1911 format. I don't know where you came up with the 3" reference, as mine is a fullsize 5". This, btw,is the only size offered.
Rock Jock,
I would love to see your dealers face when you pull that HAWG out of the box and show him your inferior Dan Wesson;)
Your going to love it.

I'm not much of a 1911 fan, but Byron's Razorback would be on my short list if I was. GA Arms makes what I consider to be about the perfect defensive 10mm- 155 grain Gold Dot at 1375 fps.

"No one makes a 10mm gun anymore."
Tell this guy to head over to glocktalk and take a look at "The Ten Ring", the 10mm guys have their own separate forum, the glock 20 and 29 are going strong......tom

He did conceded that Glock makes one, but......"its for a very small market." He also said there was no reason for the 10mm since a .45 ACP would do the job adequately from a SD perspective.

By that reasoning, there should only be one defensive caliber on the market.

The 10mm is a specialists round, just like the .41 Magnum, IMNSHO.
If you shoot one and like it, its a great round.
If you'll only own a few pistols or revolvers, its harder to find, more costly, with fewer available options than most others.
Dan Wesson? Well, to each their own... but that dealer's thoughts are mirrored by many dealers all over the country... especially if they've been in business long enough to see the DW name rise and fall, and rise and fall, and rise and fall... etc.
Actually he bought it from someone who had FIVE and sold two. Puts a rather different light on it that way doesn't it?
Yep, it means DW's quality control is running at about 60%... which, IME, is about right for all iterations of that company since the founder's death.

Have not had the opportunity to handle a DW 1911. They look ok, especially the RZ's.
But the 10mm is NOT a passe caliber. In a single stack 1911, it is almost like having 10rds of .41 Mag at your disposal. Now with Kimber making a 10, maybe more will follow. I picked this one up over the weekend.

10mm a specialists round???
You're kidding right?
"DW's quality control is running about 60%" - Where did you pull that figure from.
Here, let me guess.
I own a RZ, was the gun perfect = no. Extractor was changed, Over sized firing pin stop installed = problems solved.
Overall acuracy is excellent. Fit & feel = 1911..
