Is that a .31 caliber pocket revolver?

well Sage...its a pietta..so who the f*** knows..its a .36 cal...semi fluted cut fer stock, 5 1/2" bbl...So maybe either a cut down '61 Navy, or maybe a copy of a '62 pocket police. Brought it home, stripped it all down, and the only flaw I can find is a scratch mark above the wedge screw..goin up to almost the top of the barrel, and the color casing on the right side of the frame is all but non existant. My gf wanted to check out BP shootin..so I bought it fer her...I got no complaints with it...and she better not either!

Since it is a .36 caliber - 5 1/2"bbl, it's probably the 1861 Sheriff's Model. :)

Wel Sage...you could be right...lookin at it closer....the '62 police had a small bead for front sight, whereas the '61 Navy did have the blade front sight, which this one has, along with the 6 shot cylinder..buttt...didnt the '61 Navy only come with full fluted cylinders, where the "62 PR had half fluted?? I just wish it was a true Colt...so i could be sure..

Well Missuramoss congrads to both of you on a fine revolver ... I have always liked that one in .36cal. the Pietta 1862 Army Police('61 Navy with a 5 1/2" bbl). There was an 1860 Army Sheriff too in .44 with the 5 1/2" bbl, I like um both. An addition Kirst Gated Konvertor would make it a prime cart Rev conversion...

I got the ASM 31 cousin of that and it's a real hoot to shoot. I've had a ROA for a few years, but the lil 31 takes a lot less powder and is mild enough for my wife to shoot. She's not crazy about the 7 1/2" barrel of the Ruger.

The 5 1/2" tapered round bbl w/front blade sight is the same as the 1861 Navy, but it's name is '1861 ARMY Sherrif's Model. The 1861 Navy has a six shot navel scene engraved cylinder. The 1862 Police Revolver has a half fluted 5 shot cylinder.

Pietta makes a nice looking revolver, but they have a real problem with the names. Be careful missuramoss, wimmin folk are known to change their minds, she may want a 44mag next.

Most of the "names" we see are for marketing today, or names applied by collectors. Easy way to tell the 62 from the 61 is the number of chambers in the cylinder. 6 Holes? 1861. 5 holes? 1862.

I have Uberti models of both and like them. The 1862 is the only 36 I have fired that generates recoil. Nice revolver though, compact and easy to carry. Easy to see why there were so many of the small framed revolvers built by Colts.
