Savage 220 Help

I have a shot gun that belonged to my granfather has not been fired in 30+ years (a true sham there) I know realy nothing about shot guns it has been kept cleaned and oiled.
I was told that the barrel was replaced from a octogone barrel to this one but not sure on this and no one in the family can seem to remember if so would have been done 50+ ago I have douts on this for the stamped marks on the barrel and on the grip/fire mecinisam seem to be the same.

This is what I have on the Shot gun
Savage 220
proof tested 16 gauge
2 3/4 chamber
there is no S/N# any where

it is a Signal berral break
I can not find shells for this any help there would be good an were to get some.
I want to fire this and want to know would it be safe to where it has not been fired in a long time and would this thing put me rear I am 5'3" and 165lbs?

any info would help I would love to get gramps old gun fireing again

The 220 was an upscale single shot that was an excellent design, well made but not a good seller.

As with all old shotguns, and this was probably made before I was born, a checkout by a smith is mandatory.

16 gauge shells are not hard to find, except in the box stores. Check the gun shops around you.

As with all lighter shotguns, recoil can range from brisk to agonizing. Use light loads and good form.

An oz of shot is good, those 7/8 oz loads from Fiocchi are better.

:cool:I got to the gun range today and brought the 16 with me and some #6 game loads and boy can I say I am Happy for having never shot a shot gun befor I think I found a new love of shooting.
There was a nice solid kick but felt great I think I am going to pick up some differnt loads and check it out more.

can some one give me a list of some of the laods that I can use in this thinking of useing it more for fun shooting Clay pigeons
