The House is a romp, nearly a 30-member edge for Republicans.

The Senate is closer, but Republicans will have at least a 2 seat majority.

I see the pro-gun candidate for Senate I voted for won. Yippie! :)

As a side note, this was the first election I was old enough to vote in. Lookit me, I'm a responsible part of the Republic now! :D

for the most part the dems in VA are generally pretty good. I was actually talking with a member of the VCDL while getting my membership and he said that many times its the republicans that are the problem. So dont bash VA dems too much, from what I hear most are pretty good

Thing is, in Virginia, half of our Democrats are either pro-gun, or simply won't vote anti-gun for fear of their rural constituents.
Even our democratic governor is better than a republican like George Pataki in NY state.

Actually from what I've read the greatest leaps in rkba rights have been signed into law by Warner. Can't really say he's a bad guy looking at his record.

I am back and forth between VA and NY so I am well aware of the truth of your comparison

Then you have the other side of the Democratic coin...

Robert Scott

Leslie Byrne (who chose not to run for re-election, thank God)

J. Chapman Petersen (whom I affectionately call YOU :cuss:ing :cuss:hole MORON!)

And a few others whould should be dragged through broken glass and then dipped in finely powdered salt to shrivel like the slugs that they are...

Interestingly, though, I cast more votes for Democrats this election than I ever have before.

In general, the Republican candidates in Northern Virginia have been pretty horrible the last couple of election cycles for various reasons.

J. Chapman Petersen (whom I affectionately call YOU :cuss:ing :cuss:hole MORON!)

You too?

He mistook me for a woman at a local political meeting. Me no like. Also, NRA ranks him as an "F."

In our district, Devolites, who was ranked at a "D" by the NRA, won, against Ron Christian, I believe, an "F."

Kuccinelli seems to be pretty good.

I was hoping Vickery would win for Sheriff, on the grounds that he gave me a nice pen after I did some volunteer work for Brickner. I was also kind of hoping Brickner would win. But Connoly won, though I at least got to give him a Mychele Brickner balloon during a parade. That was fun, seeing the look he had. See what you get to do if you get involved in politics?

I lived in VA for 27 years, before migrating to the deep south. Virginia is a conservative, pro-gun state, and with the exception of a couple of counties near D.C., the state is DRAMATICALLY more pro gun than any state on the Mid-Atlantic coast. Most people would agree that VA is more pro-gun than NC, because of NC's red tape with pistol permits.

I've been away for about 5 years, but VA's democrats are leery of the wrath of their rural constituents, and tend to keep their anti-gun aspirations in the closet. On an unrelated note concerning North Carolina, this John Edwards character scares me. He possesses way too many Clinton-like qualities, and to add insult to injury, he's a lawyer.

Be afraid. He also possesses the endorsement and funding of most of the trial lawyer associations. His short voting record in the Senate has not been good.

Heheheheheh...

BBBBBBWWWWWWWWWWHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Sorry, but that's too funny!

I supported Connolly, actually. I know him fairly well, I've worked with and for him on a couple of boards, and when I buttonholed him a couple of times about his position on firearms, he actually listened, and discussed, in an intelligent way, the situation.

Given the latest set of Virginia laws that were passed this year, there's not a lot that can be done anymore on the local level to screw with gun rights in Virginia, so Connolly got my vote on issues other than firearms related ones.

One of his office staff is a very good friend of mine, and she and her husband are both HARDCORE Republicans.

Brickner, quite frankly, scared me. She was FAR too evasive, didn't have a good grasp of the facts on which she was speaking, etc. She had no real plans or propsed solutions, only sound bites. She just wasn't viable.

I was a little on the fence until I saw her performance in the first debate right after Isabel hit the county. That sealed it for me.

Am I happy with my tax situation? No, not particularly.

But am I happy that the house that I paid $154,000 for 10 years ago is now worth over $300,000, and part of that is due to the fact that the county schools are among the best in the nation, the parks system is second to none, and the county is considered to be one of the best run in the nation? You're damned right.

My man, Lingamfelter, won in the 31st district. He is so pro-gun (NRA A+) he sponsors a public shotgun shoot every year. Most importantly, he isn't afraid to state on his published platform that he firmly supports the 2nd Amendment. This is more important than it might appear as we are in Northern VA where anti-gun sentiment is growing. We had a long talk a few years ago about his stance on the 2A. He firmly believes it is an individual right of self-defense and Constitutional defense and doesn't necessarily apply to hunters and shotgunners only.

The one thing that bothered me is that he only won by around 1,000 votes. That wasn't enough when his opponent is anti-gun (NRA F).

I thought for a second about your statement that "Here in Northern Virginia being increasingly anti-gun..." and I was going to rib you about it, Mal...

Then I realized with a shock that yeah, your area IS becoming more and more a commuter suburb for Hell (a.k.a., Washington, DC) and that the Northern Virginia liberal plague is really spreading to areas that probably even 10 years ago were relatively untouched by the commuter influence.
