I know vB software has it. I was wondering why THR didnt. Is it b/c of a bit of trouble in the past that I am not aware of? IE someone quotes something, and flames it, but didnt see the retraction on down the line? Is it to save thread reading legnth? (when the quote button is used, I believe the settings can be tweaked to change the font size to '1' and bold/italicize the font.)

I know vB software has it. I was wondering why THR didnt. We've disabled that "feechur".
Is it b/c of a bit of trouble in the past that I am not aware of?Not really trouble, but it caused many otherwise constructive members to become lazy and quote an entire 5 paragraph post and follow it up with their own 3 word sentence.
IE someone quotes something, and flames it, but didnt see the retraction on down the line? That wasn't the problem.
Is it to save thread reading legnth?Yes.
There are several methods to quote material in previous posts still available. The quote button was grossly misused and it caused the majority of posts to be quoted in their entirety. Rarely did anyone using it edit the quoted text so that it was useful to the reader.

Oh come on! Everyone has to contribute to the lazyness of Americans! How will we ever keep our reputations with people like you mods around? :scrutiny:
Its your patriotic duty as an American!;) :neener:
Actually, I understand exactly why.:uhoh:

It was easier to disable it than to try and retrain the membership on appropriate use. Imagine a 2-page rant that 10 people wanted to say "thumbs up," or "dead-on," or "we agree completely." Easy to scroll through if you're using the forum today. Big ol' pain in da hiny when everyone quotes the entire thing.
Makes for a more readable forum. But yes, I miss it too.

Aside from copying it in longhand and typing it back in. (Not responsible for errors in transcription:neener: )
Edit: Changed title for less false precision.

Orthonym,
Push down the left button of your mouse at the beginning of the section you want to copy, and hold it down until you have moved the mouse to highlight the whole thing. Let go of the left button. Point the cursor at the highlighted area and click the right button once. A menu will pop up. Select "copy."
Go to your reply window. Type {quote} but replace the {} with [] brackets. Right click. Select 'paste.' The section you highlighted will appear. Type {/quote} but replace the {} with [] brackets.
And type your own reply.
