atomd October 26, 2009, 02:06 PM I just came back from my weekly visit to a couple of gun shops around town and I've been seeing a trend lately. The bulk (and by bulk I mean almost every single one) of all the smaller guns come with Crimson Trace grips pre-installed. Now, there's nothing wrong with that but I think it's silly to have 4 different Bersa .380 pistols in a case, every single one of them with CT grips and all of them selling for $500. A lot of people looking to buy a gun like a Bersa are looking to save a little money...they are looking for a value. Almost all the 442,642,638, etc models had them installed too and they were going for ~6something.
I know a lot of people like them and I don't mind them myself, but when every small gun in the case has them there's not much choice in the matter and it really increases the price of the guns...sometimes almost double. Is CT cutting a deal with the shops to add some of these on after the fact or are the stores only stocking those factory CT models because that's pretty much 2 sales rolled into one? I noticed that the only 442/642s I saw that didn't have the CT installed were the power port series....again increasing the price to $599.
I don't mean to be a complainer but let's see some guns in the shops that are...well....just guns! If I want a CT down the road I'll plunk down the cash. I don't need my gun to come with a holster, a hat, a special carrying case, a laser grip, a gun light, grappling hook and a bayonet. I would rather spend that extra money on another great purchase...ammo!

NCPatrolAR October 26, 2009, 02:10 PM That's the dealer's choice to carry those models. Around here it is rare to see CTequiped pistols for sale
KBintheSLC October 26, 2009, 02:56 PM I feel your pain... Its not on my 637. Never cared for lasers... except for the one on Star Wars.
TheNev October 26, 2009, 03:39 PM When I bought my PPK/s I had a choice of standard grips, or CT grips installed.
I chose the standard grips because I didnt feel like spending $700 right then.
mustang_steve October 26, 2009, 04:27 PM It's like that down here too, a regular CT love fest. I'd rather see night sights than a laser, but well and oh well.
earlthegoat2 October 26, 2009, 04:37 PM There could be a logical reason for this.
It could be that the dealer cannot get any models of guns except the CT equipped ones. I would think the non CT guns are more popular because of cost alone and these days it is difficult to get any guns. The shop might just be trying to keep the shelves full by stocking the only guns they can get.
DammitBoy October 26, 2009, 04:40 PM I wish they made a crimson trace for my para-ordinance P14!!
InkEd October 26, 2009, 08:19 PM +1 on the lightsabre it is a more civilized weapon. The CT grips not really my thing.
MICHAEL T October 26, 2009, 08:28 PM My dealer has 1 pistol with them It just sets in case Most people aren't into the pointer light. I agree on the bersa their a little much on the price. I don't know of any member on BersaTalk that has a set yet Might be but I can't remember any
M2 Carbine October 26, 2009, 11:36 PM I haven't seen that around here. Few guns with installed lasers at the local gun stores.
I'm a big fan of (good) lasers and have them on all my defense guns, handguns, shotguns and rifles. But I had to buy the lasers separately for every gun except the Kimber Ultra Covert.
You guys should do yourself a favor and call Crimson Trace 800 442 2406 and ask for their FREE DVD. If nothing else it will give you an idea of what you will be up against if the other guy has a laser and KNOWS HOW TO USE IT.
No, you do not just shine it around like in the movies. Just like learning to use iron sights, it takes knowledge and practice to use it right.
Personally, I practice with lasers and laser/lights about three evenings a week (home range). I've been shooting for over 55 years and IMO the gun mounted laser is one of the best things that ever came along for us shooters.
floods October 27, 2009, 01:50 PM There is a logical reason for all of these firearms being shown with CT grips.
Profit margins on accessories are higher, so that's where most businesses make their money. This goes for all businesses, not just gun shops, go to Best Buy and see how often the employees offer service plans, cables, cases, etc.
There's also an influx of newbie gun buyers, and what looks cooler than a laser sight? (rhetorical ;P)
Cosmoline October 27, 2009, 02:06 PM I had them on an SP-101 a few years ago but they broke pretty quickly under recoil and my grip. Company never made good on the warranty, so that's the last ones I'll ever use. Whether they add anything useful is questionable. I do like the little tactical lights though.

That was a Crimson Trace laser?
jaydubya October 27, 2009, 09:39 PM Cosmoline, could you provide some details about your problems with Crimson Trace laser grips and the company's customer service? Full disclosure: I have them on three handguns, with at least (stopped counting) four thousand rounds down range from each. I had occasion to contact Crimson Trace's customer service for a problem with the set on my Browning High Power. They mailed me another set and asked me to send mine back to them for analysis, all on their nickel. That is excellent service.
Cordially, Jack
