I should know better than to go to the gunshop to "only look around". I show up yesterday, and before I settled down to browsing dealer whips out a used blue CZ-97.....blue with the wood grips........beautiful condition......never owned a .45ACP pistol before........some have said it's too big, fits my long skinny hand perfectly.........$400. + tax..........I told him I'd get back to him.......my knees are wobblin'...........my resistance is breaking down

400 bucks a good price on this thing?

Yes, $400 is a good price.

I had one for a while -- I'm a big CZ enthusiast. But the grip was just a hair larger than felt comfortable for me.

It was a very well-made, attractive weapon, nicely finished and very accurate.

(I also have a very nice Witness Sport Long Slide in .45, which has a slightly smaller grip, so when I traded the CZ-97B away, I wasn't without a big .45...)

If it fits your hand, don't hesitate.

My CZ97b is wonderfully accurate. It is a long reach to the trigger, and the gun does have some weight to it, but it is a great piece. Even new, the CZ97b is underpriced for what you get.

I just picked up a 97 from Grayrider here at THR.

Everyone goes on about how big they are. I held it and compared it with my Beretta 96FS. The Beretta's grips are a hair larger in my opinion, and the slide is thicker! The CZ is a bit heavier with that full length THICK dust cover, and it's a hair taller overall. Granted, the Beretta is a big gun, so I guess if you're used to 'smaller' guns, they both would seem gargantuan...

I can't wait to shoot it, hopefully the end of this week.

$400 is a good used price. Don't know where you are in Kansas, but in the KC area, the cheapest a new one goes for is $540, which is why I was haunting the for sale forum for a good deal. Glad I found one!

I love mine, particularly after I removed the wooden grips and replaced them with Hogue grips for the CZ 75B with finger groves. You have to place the grips in almost boiling water for about 45-60 seconds, but it makes them flexible enough to strech on the 97B (hint: work quickly). I also replaced the standard recoil spring with a 20 lb Wolff spring for the 75B. Works great.

It's a wonderfully accurate pistol and a joy to shoot.

That's an excellent price. I paid about $150.00 more for new out the door. The glossy blue is gorgeous. Mine is the polycoat finish and I like it very much. If you end up getting it, you won't be disappointed.

How would you choose between the 97B and a fullsize Witness? I haven't seen either in person, but the Witness seem more aesthetically attractive.

I'd owned a CZ-75B a couple years ago, liked it, so I was kinda sold on the CZ brand....once I got the 97B in my hand, case closed..

Another dealer in town has a .45 Witness in "wonder" finish...sharp looking gun, I was just hooked on the CZ....:D

I put a grand total of 40 rounds of Triton .450SMC through my CZ-97B, with a full length steel guide rod and 22lb recoil spring.

No problems or apparent slide battering.

My gun isn't real fond of hollowpoints, thouhg I haven't really tested it since getting it throat/polished.

I think you will really like it. My 97b has the best polish and blueing job of any gun I have made in the last 50 years. The only thing that comes close to the quality of the polish and blueing is my pre-27 357 magnum from 49 (if I remember right) that has the most deep lusterous blueing of any gun I own.

My 97b is really good with hollowpoints but it does not like any ammo loaded longer the 1.272 COL. Keep them a bit shorter then that and life is grand!

I believe, my CZ-97b came with a factory test target, so I know mine was fired some at the factory.

If you consume the cheese and macaroni separately, you can stretch it out to two months. Any former college student will attest to that!

A great pistol. The trigger reach was a little long for me, so I parted with mine. However, it is arguably one of the most accurate box stock .45s out there.

I shot mine on Saturday (used to belong to MiniZ, and before that George Hill). It finally found a perminant home :D . It was at the range I made one ragged hole 10 round hole through the black at 15 yards from a rest. None of my other pistols grouped like that.

Yes, I shot mine a week ago. Put about 85 hollowpoint reloads through it. It hung a couple of times, but I think that was cause I had a couple long rounds.

I was impressed with the accuracy!! My Beretta now has to watch it's back if it wants to keep it's HD/carry job!
