What's the scoop on these? I have heard that the one defect is that they have an insufficiently heat treated reciever, which can be corrected if you send it to the right company to do it. If that were to be corrected, what else would hold this rifle back from being a real contender?
Thanks

One is that the Polytech M14/S has a very well-made receiver that is actually better than US-made ones.
The other story is that the Polytech receivers are too hard and may develop stress fractures.
My own personal M14/S is a dandy...no problems at all with accuracy or function.
You pays your money and you takes your chances.

If you read up on it from rec.guns or earlier posts on TFL, the bolt tends to be the soft part of the Chinese M14 clones. Fulton Armory was doing a brisk business fitting a USGI bolt to the Chinese receivered guns. I've seen those particular rifles do quite well at High Power matches, to include Camp Perry.

As Gewerh said it's the bolts that ten to be the problem. However, what I have been to is chech the headspacing of the factory bolt, if it ok, don't mess with it, shoot the gun until headspacing becomes a problem and then replace the bolt.
I haven't had the chance to shoot my M14/S. So I don't have any personal experience.
You might want to do some searching at www.battlerifles.com Lots of info on the Polytech and Norinco M14's.
