Thinking of trying these for the Dragoon...

Anyone here tried them?

I cast and use those boolits in a couple of S&W revovlers (M25-2, M25-5) but have never tried them in an open top design. We used to ream the cylinder on original 1860s and Remingtons to accept the common 200 grain SWC target bullet for use on the target line when I first started shooting black powder competition, so I don't see why you couldn't use the 235 WC. Your velocity will be lower than the RB but it might hit closer to point of aim.

I am interested to see your results.

Oyeboten,

What did you decide on the wadcutters? Inquiring minds want to know!

Hi StrawHat,

Thanks for asking!

Lol...It prompted me to remember, and, to actually place an Order for some.

Should be here in few days.

I will let you know!

I am more than a little curious as I have that style in a double cavity mold. All the boolits are currently in 45 AR cases so I can't try one in the Dragoon. Do you plan to load on the revolver in off the revolver with a loading stand? Or will the length of the bullet determine that for you? I would imagine that if sized and lubed to whatever the ID of your chambers are they would work well. With the length of the bullet, I would not try to size in the cylinder. It would be hard on the rammer. The other problem may come from the rifling in the Dragoon. It may be set up for a shorter bullet. I have used the old collar button bullet (Lyman 457130) and it worked well.

The collar button

The short length and large lube groove help with black powder and the weight, 145 grains is close enough to round ball to trick the revolver. Penetration is about the same.
