Purchasing my Uberti Walker replica this year has been the smartest thing I've done gun-wise in a long time. I have always been interested in cap 'n ball revolvers but never realized just how much fun they are to shoot. I bought the Walker first because I just knew that I would end up buying it anyhow and I don't regret that decision one bit, I'm hooked!
So my question is: is there another cap 'n ball revolver (or other BP handgun) that is as much fun as the Walker or have I reached the pinnacle?

:D any "Dragoon" will suffice to make the big Wart-Hawg grin on your face , maybe even moreso than the Walker , less weight , smaller barrel , handles better , still holds Musket size charges :D .
The other Cap and Baller that really shines and makes the grin too is any of the Buffalo 12" or longer length barreled 1858 Remington Army's . Not so much for the amount of bang you can get in one , but , it is for me the REACH OUT AND TOUCH YOUR MELON , THEN BLOW IT OFF capability it has , even at 100 yards :D ..Step that up one more notch and run real BP cartridges out of the R and D conversion cylinders in same gun and you have a formidable hunting weapon with a choice of hundreds of modern bullet designs . Ok , now lets go one further with same said model and run my Remington Express loads through it and it becomes a fine Pig , Deer , Bear , CAR , TRUCK , killer :D .. Especailly with big fat Meplat cast Keith bullets :D
Although I don't recomend that load in anything but Piettas Model of said 58 in Stainless , and I still don't advise you do it anyway , but I am crazy that way , so its ok for me :D ..
So , yes , these two guns get my motor runnin just as well as the Walker :D.
They all make me smile though , even the Littel Pocket guns :D . I guess for you , going BIG is a good choice first . Some people would be scared away from the sport going that route first though . Hee hee hee , bit I am all about GO BIG , OR GO HOME . :D
Cosmoline, one of my favorite scenes as well. As far as a bigger boom than the Walker.......... I have really been doing some research into getting oen of these to go along with my Walkers ;)

Love that scene but the sound effects of shooting the glass did not do it justice. I have two Walkers and without ear plugs they are deafening.

(mykeal quote ) Why is there no smoke?
Yep.
Wish there'd been some in that movie scene, though.

Sorry for starting this thread and then not responding to the posts, I've been sick with whatever flu-like bug is running around here at the present.
Jaeger those are some beautiful pistols you have there. Mine is as stock as it gets but I'll try and get some pics of it up sometime. I'd really like to get some shots of it mid-detonation if I can.
Mykeal, I've been thinking about those Rogers and Spencer revolvers too. I really love the way they look. I've never seen one in person but I've read in here and elsewhere on the Internet that they are pretty substantial in size. What kind of loads do they shoot?
I might hate to admit it, but I also really like the way the double action Starrs look. Maybe seeing Clint with one in Unforgiven did it- of course he could probably make anything look cool. Any info on those would be appreciated- especially whether or not you can fire them in single action mode and if all the bad press they receive is warranted.
I have a feeling that this Walker is definitely not going to be my one and only BP gun. Sorry for the long post and thanks for all the replies!

don't get us going on the Starr again , LOL ....
Umm , yes , the Double action can fire both single or double, the single works off a an auxillary trigger that is in the back of the trigger guard , pretty cool desing actually . You can run easilly 35 plus grains in one . Mine was built well and thats all I will say :D ...
And the Rogers in my opinion are the Pinnicale of perfection , not the Roooger , since it it is an after thought and not original in any way except it is original Rooger . :D ..When Ratdoggy68 came to my home recently and held mine , cocked it , pointed it , his exclamation was WOW !
They are that cool Heat .
Cheers, hope you feel better, I have had it for 7 days now, Ratdoggy is nearly dead from it too .

The R&S is indeed a substantial revolver; the frame is on the order of a Dragoon or Ruger Old Army. My best load is 30 gr fffg real black under a .454 or .457 round ball. Cumpston and Bates, in their book Percussion Revolvers, A Guide To Their History, Performance and Use, also used 30 gr with a .451 ball. 30 gr is not a maximum load, although I don't believe 35 gr will fit, so it's a practical maximum.

I do not own a DA Starr, so I'm not a resource for information on that design. I do own a Pietta SA Starr, and I'm generally not pleased with the design, although the Pietta execution is quite good.

How about a lever action Savage & North...pretty beefy gun for a .36 caliber.

IMHO they all are the most fun that you can have with a pistol but I do miss my Dragoon "maybe my brother'll get tired of it one day."
Right now the most fun I have is with my custom Pietta NMA w/ 5.5" barrel.
Lets just say it likes the .456 220gr. conicals w/ 28gr. FFFG Goex more than any other load I've run through it with very good accuracy & a very nice punch.
Das Jaeger:
I may need to talk to you about maybe a set of wood blanks for my lil cannon since you really know your woods.
Shooting the Walker is bound to be one of the highlights of your life. Especially the first shot. I have no experience witht he R&S, Savage or Rugers but I also get quite a "kick" shooting my Pocket Navy and Pocket Police revolvers. And they don't eat as much powder as my 44s.
Can you compare the Pocket Navy to the Pocket Police? I know they're the same caliber, number of shots, etc, but what about handling, action, etc? I have the Pocket Police but not the Navy (I think that, pound for pound, the Pocket Police gives more of a bang than a Walker).
