Anyone know of the old 50-90 (the "Big Fifty" used by the commercial buffalo hunters in the 1870's +)round being used on big game today and the results?
Seems like it would be a suitable round for even some of Africa's game.

Here's a picture I shot of a guy using one two years ago. He got a pretty nice bull bison.

It was an original Sharps Big Fifty, still as good for buffalo hunting as it was in the 1870s when it was made.

I saw a film of a guy shooting an African elephant with one not to long ago.

How well did it perform ?
Wasn't expecting to hear of it being used on an elephant!

A 50-90 is capable of shooting a fairly heavy slug at a moderate velocity and will produce some pretty impressive energy.
A stout smokeless load can produce 1900+fps and over 4200 ftlb of energy with a 500gr bullet.

It did great. The guy dropped a pretty big bull with a side brain shot at about 30 yards.
