I'm going today to buy my first gun.
I am getting a 38 cal Hi-Point pistol.

The only thing I cant deside is weather I should get the Compensator or not.

Will it make that much diff. in the gun? or would the 12 bucks be better spent in a extra magazine?

thanks,
mike

I think you'll find that a lot of people talk down hi-points.....for what they are, cheap reliable starter guns they're ok......although for the same amount of money you could get a used revolver(arguably a better first gun than auto anyway)..but if the hi-point is a done deal.....use the money to buy ammo....shoot the gun till it can't be shot anymore and move on.....hi=point carbines are a better choice if you "need " one...........where's Trapical Z when you need him??????

I'm not a Hi Point fan either, but a first gun is a first gun. Enjoy, stay safe & have fun ;)

Where are my manners:o Welcome to THR :D

A .38 caliber Hi-Point? They don't make a .38 super do they? I doubt it. I don't think Hi-Point makes revolvers....?

Anyways, yea, for the money, why buy a Hi-Point when you can get a Mak, CZ52/50, used S&W model 10, Bersa....ect...:uhoh:

I was taught that if you couldn't say something nice then say nothing at all.

So let me say this regarding buying a High Point,

In all honesty I used to work in a shop that sold quite a few of them. Most of them several times in fact.

Welcome to THR.

Always glad to have a newbie drop by.

Permit me to offer unsolicited advice. Definitely worth the price you paid for it.

In purchasing a firearm make sure you have a thorough understanding of the cost of the ammo you will run through it. An inexpensive handgun in an unpopular caliber will quickly eat up the savings you thought you had on the firearm.

FWIW

edited to add: consider taking an NRA basics and safety course. If you are starting from scratch you have the chance to do it right the first time. Course are not expensive and pay dividends down the road.

Definitely get some training. It is well worth it.
Also, consider a .22 for cheap practice.

My first gun was a .22 bolt rifle made by Daisy and it had a die cast bolt. The bolt handle flew off when shooting it one day. :what:

next was a .25 raven. :barf:

both are long gone but now I live in the land of S&W and CZ!

Remember SAFETY IS NO JOKE! Please get some training! Most states have a free hunters safety course. They kick butt usually. Don't matter if you ain't huntin. Just learn how not to shoot anybody on accident! That is really important!

You should start out with a .22 revolver. That's what I say to everyone and it is good advice.
