Can anyone suggest starting load of Varget for 90grain Berger .223? Dave. "for those who understand no explanation is needed, for those who do not no explanation is possible."

Having never shot this heavy bullet in my 223's I can't recommend a load myself. However if you check Hodgdon powders website at www.hodgdon.com you will find about a half dozen powders recommended for a 90 gr bullet. You might check Berger's website or give them a call for loading data also.

Ran the numbers thru my modified Powley Computer. It suggests a starting load of 20.7 grains of a powder with a speed index similar to Varget for a velocity of 2,440 fps from a 24” barrel, 2.260" COAL. Reading the tea leafs indicates that a powder slightly slower than Varget, like RL-17 or N540, may ultimately provided better performance.

Otherwise, if kept to a 2.260" COAL, the base of the bullet is practically touching the flash hole!

From what I've read Varget works very well with heavy bullets in the .223 Remington. I've been meaning to give it a try with 55gr bullets. Ball C 2 will work very well with heavy bullet .223 rounds too. All the current load data you need for Hodgdon/ Winchester/ IMR powders is on the Hodgdon Load Data Site (http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp).
