Looking for info on a .410 over 38 autopistol

I have a friend who once saw a type of autopistol with box magazines that had a .410 upper barrel and a 38 cal lower barrel. He described it as something that was concealable but I have my doubts in that respect. Have any of you heard of such a sidearm. He said it defiantly had a box magazine two barrels and two separate calibers. The friend said the lower was a 38 cal but not what round was used or for that matter if it had a separate box mag for the lower part. Now I am the one that's scratchin my head over this one as to if it really exists or was it really some sort of single shot double pistol. Help anyone?

I'm sorry, I know there are some really odd firearms made over the last couple of centuries, but in this case I think your friend had better go back on his meds. I think he is hallucinating. Now if he said revolver, well there's always the Le Mat, but it was not 410/38.

I was thinking that also but the thing had a removable mag as it was described. May not be available in the US or something.

Sounds like something out of a video game or movie. Nothing on the market in the USA.

You could get a derringer with a .410 and .38 barrel.

Maybe he meant .38 Super Auto or .380 Auto instead of .38 auto? (for one of the derringer barrels)

No offense, but how knowledgeable is said friend about firearms?

I vote with Ron James and Jim Watson. It's something out of a video game.

Amercan Derrringer Co. used to offer their derringers with specially ordered, different caliber chambers for the two barrels. They might do a .38/.45-.410 on special order.

Ok I thought about this for a bit and I would say not a chance, simply due to the size of the grip an autopistol would have to hold .410 shells.

It would have to be more than 2.5 inches deep (closer to 3 in) to hold a .410 shell.

Not many people would be able to hold that grip very well.:)

Couldnt we just modify a G21? :D

Oh can you make the grip smaller on those?;)

Boil in hot water for five minutes, then put them in the freezer with a magazine full of .410 shells, alternating with .45ACP cartridges. Shrink-wrapped.

I agree with what you all are saying but he said he saw this pistol. He is an engineer and really smart but not about firearms. I was skeptical so I asked here. The owner was a pilot and supposedly carried it with him in the plane. My friend never handled it or saw it fired however.

I've never heard of a mag fed over-under handgun, much less in .410

He definitely got the magazine-fed part wrong. the only type of pistol that is anything like what he described would be a derringer with two different calibered barrels.

just throwing the mag-7 out there to show that you can place shotshells in a grip (I am aware they are not standard length). It can also look like and autoloader, show him a pic maybe someone photoshoped it and gave it another barel. Or your friend is messing with you.

Your friend saw nothing of the sort. The only ways mechanically doable for something like that would be the LeMat revolver or a break-action derringer type thing. There's a double-barrel bolt action rifle that's incredibly expensive, but both chambers are the same. There is also that weird thing the Russians use on their space capsules.

He either saw it in a video game, or is thinking of this movie prop from Blade Runner:
