My brother asked me about the quality and dependability of the Mitchell Arms Sabre 12 gauge. I have never heard of them, does anyone own one or have any first hand experience with one?

TimM,

I don't know anything much about them. I saw the listing for them in the current CDNN catalog, and they are certainly inexpensive for semiautos- $229- 279 depending on barrel options etc. I don't know where they are made or what design they're based on, or how well made they are. Hope you find someone better able to help,

I shot a MA Sabre Police model and took it apart to look at the gas system. It's made in Turkey and pretty much the same as most all of the Turkish made semi autos:Charles Daly, TriStar, H&R Excell A5, LSI Escort. The gas system is located up front, no spring & tube that fits in the butt stock, and it uses a rubber O-ring and Rem 1100 O-rings will fit.

The one I shot was very reliable with WalMart Value Pack shells. Before you buy one I would find out if replacement parts are available, if not I wouldn't purchase one.

I read some gun book... I can't remember which one, it was some edition of either 'Assault Weapons' or 'Law Enforcement Weapons and Tactics' by Krause publications.

They tested the Mitchell Sabre alongside an FN SLP and rated them both highly in ergonomics and accuracy, although they didn't seem to do much sustained testing for reliability.

FN SLP is a much nicer shotgun. There's no comparison in my opinion.

I don't know about the Saber, but IIRC Mitchell arms is located in Houston Texas and attempted to make High Standard pistols for a while. (un-successfuly, so I understand.) I'm told that of late they are marketing a shotgun, but that's all I've heard.
