How difficult is a hammer replacement

I have a Taurus PT1911 and I would like to take off the locking hammer and associated crap so that I can pu on a .22 conversion in the future. I have regular hand tools and I can follow written instructions and schematics but I have never done anything more than field strip any gun. Is a hammer replacement too difficult?

Can you explain what you mean by "locking hammer and associated crap?"
The PT 1911 is a Colt 1911 copy and replacing hammers is a pretty simple job, but I don't know what you mean by "locking hammer."

That would be Taurus'--ahem--wonderful little 'child safety' lock.
In a few of them, it's a little allen screw in the hammer that presses it too far back to strike the firing pin and locks it from moving back.

I see; Thanks for that info. I actually have no experience with a PT 1911. And now I'm wondering if other 1911 parts will work in one.
