Question on Sight Picture

I have a Colt Defender (3" officer's model) with standard iron sights. I believe that Colt sets these sights to "dot the i" at 50 feet when shooting a bullseye.
So if I bring the target closer to, say, 15 feet, in order to hit the center of the target, do I still "dot the i" or do I line up my sights directly over the center of target?
Thanks.

You really have to shoot it to be sure. I'd use a 6 o'clock hold and see where it hits at both distances. The ammo matters too.

15 feet is 5 yards...do you shoot well enough to tell the difference of POI at that distance?
i would get a bunch of round price stickers and put them on a backer set at the distance you're interested in shooting.
shoot a five shot group on one with the dot just above your front sight, then shoot another group on the other with your front sight bisecting the dot.
that should give you a feel for your POI relative to your POA
