Lyman multi expand / charge die issue

First of all I do enjoy this die. It simplifies the process significantly on my turret press. And the expand die has a taper that works well for seating lead bullets. But I have a bit of a problem and was wondering if anyone else was experiencing the same thing.

The appropriate expander screws in to a sleeve that's supposed to slide in to the die and be tightened by a set screw. Unfortunately the sleeve fits SOOO tight in the die that it's extremely difficult just to get the sleeve in/out of the die. I had to use a hammer and punch to get the sleeve out.

I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem. I'm thinking they had a issue when machining the inside diameter of the die since both the short and long sleeves are binding inside the die. I plan to call Lyman tomorrow but thought I'd check here to see if it was a 1-off problem or common issue.

Thanks

If no burrs or powder residue build up it sounds as tolerences were held too tite .

Polishin may help but I`d give Lyman a call first 1-800-22Lyman & see how they want to handle it first.

Yep, some polishing will most likely make a world of difference.

it was a brand new die and no burrs found so I'm guessing you're right. I'll call lyman and see if I need to go purchase a dremel or if they'll fix it for me. thanks for the feedback.

no need for a dremel just a snug fittin swab & lappin compound , or a wood dowel split on the end with a peice of emory cloth or finer grit wrapped on it!!

final polishing with some flitz on the swab will shine it good!!
