I am looking for a trigger/bolt spring for the Interarms Virginian Dragoon (44mag)

Any of you experienced fellows know if the spring from a SAA will interchange?

Thanks!
David

Try www.gunpartscorp.com for that spring. I believe that a spring for the SAA, or percussion Colts will fit but am not positive.

Numrich doesn't have it, I have not checked gunpartscorp.

The schematics look close on the old style SAA, but thought someone on here might have tried it before...;)

Just checked gunpartscorp.com---that is Numrich Gun Parts.

Well, I have looked farther into the gun-scary!

It originally had a very light trigger, and the bolt did not engage the cylinder. After going just a bit farther, I have discovered someone has attempted a "trigger job". It looks as if they did this with a bench grinder and file or maybe even a chain saw.

So, now I am in need of the trigger & bolt spring(broken), trigger, and hammer.

The Gunman,

Is it a flat spring, or a coil spring? If it's a coil spring, Brownells has a great spring wire pack. There are several different diameters of wire grade spring in a pack.

Make your own, then heat it for about 20 minutes to stress relieve it, and let it air cool. Works beautifully.

It is the U shaped flat spring similar to the one in a SAA, looking at the schematics on Brownell's, it looks much like the Uberti, I may just order one for the SAA and one for the Uberti and see which is closest to the original.

Try VTI at www.vtigunparts.com

I suspect a spring for a Uberti Cattleman might work. They would likely know.

i just signed up for this board, and have the same problem as you. the bolt spring on my interarms dragoon broke a couple of days ago, so i'm greatly interested in the outcome!

Welcome aboard... :)

See post #10.

If my answer wasn't correct the folks at VTI, who specialize in parts for western-style guns will likely have the right one, and a part as well.

Have you tried Wolff springs? They have all types and makes of springs and might have what you are looking for.

i called them this morning, and they don't have any cross fit info for the virginian.

Why not "spring" for a Colt SAA spring, which is all of a couple of bucks? I am almost certain it will fit.

I ordered some parts a year or so ago from a gunsmith in Virginia who actually worked at the production plant and had purchased most of the stock when they closed... Marking this so I can upload the info when/if I find it

to be honest, i'm tempted to get some music wire spring stock, and try bending my own "custom" spring!

Been there, done that. You have to use some stiff spring wire, though, as those flat springs are pretty strong and getting one to match the trigger pull is tough.

I suggest doing a double bend, turning each side inward so each side is two wires, not just one.

Richard Heinie makes a music wire spring for single action Colts and clones. Don't know if would fit, but it might be a good pattern to follow.

I'm not a big fan of the Virginia Dragoon. I owned one in 44 mag. for a while. Couldn't figure the problem of poor accuracy until I dropped a bullet into the breech and it fell out the muzzle.

I think the OP has enough info. He has posted about the problem several times and in several places, and seems to ignore advice.

I have ordered springs made by wolf, colt and heinie from brownells
and tried all of them. Only the wire spring from heinie works on my virginian dragoon. Be sure to stick the longer end of wire underneath the bolt screw so you will have enough tension for the bolt to operate. The other two will not work or needs to be trimmed off or bent to fit.
