Locally, it's pretty well known that I like Model 1897 shotguns. Because of this, I got a call last Friday from a clerk at one of the local stores that sells firearms that an old gentleman from up the coast had been in and mentioned that he had a 12 gauge Model 97 he wanted to sell. He gave me the name and phone number, and to make a long story short, a Model 1897, made in 1953, with about 80% exterior, and brand new appearing interior, with a 28" Modified barrel, followed me home today, after transfering $150.00 from my wallet to his. I also had to endure over two hours of very interesting story telling, but this shotgun is now mine, along with a pretty nice Remington Nylon 66 (paid him $100.00 for the .22). I would post a picture, but I'm computer illiterate in that regard.

All in all, it was a good day.

No dinner, and his wife was on him to stop telling stories so he could take her to town. They're both in their mid 80's, and really interesting to talk to, though he likes to do all the talking. He felt bad about asking "that much" for an old shotgun, but I assured him that I didn't mind at all paying his asking price. When I offered him $100 for the Nylon 66, he said he wouldn't take over $90.00 for it, but I argued that I didn't have change, and it would make me feel better if he just accepted my offer.

Like I said, it was a good day.

That is really cool...sounds like a good guy. Those two hours of stories was probably worth it for him.
