I was thinking about a CZ75 in the 9mm. what do you guys/gals think about this gun? what problems have you had with them? what do you like about them?

thanks,

The main problem I have had with my CZ is not being able to shoot it enough.

Love this gun thoroughly.

Generally speaking, problems & CZ don't usually appear in the same sentence. Not impossible, just not common. Good pistol.

I've had a CZ75 for many years now. The pistol has the smoothest DA trigger I have ever found on an auto. It's very reliable and accurate - and I especially like the frame mounted safety as I am partial to the 1911.

I picked up a CZ75B a couple months ago, and damn, I really like it! Fits the hand good, the trigger is alright, and it's accurate and reliable. I'm going to be using it in an IDPA match this weekend.

For the money, you get a LOT of pistol. I highly recommend the CZ if you want a nice 9mm.

I've had a CZ 75 BD for a year now with absolutely no hiccups. You'll never regret buying one.

I have but about 1000 rounds through my CZ75BD with only one jam. I was using a cheap after market mag for it so it isn't really the gun's fault. The gun has been accurate and a solid value. If you do decide to get a CZ75, I also highly recommend their Kadet kit. Full 9mm feel for .22lr shooting price. Overall CZ guns offer top quality at a low price. The ergonomics are also very good, atleast they are for me.

Here is a link to another forum with a similar question asked. I posted a pretty lengthy reply there. The bottom line is that I had a lot of problems with mine and would never buy another one.

I was thinking about a CZ75 in the 9mm. what do you guys/gals think about this gun? My CZ-75B is one of my favorite and most reliable guns. I highly recomend one or more.

I also second the recommendation on the CZ Kadet .22LR slide. It is probably the best .22LR conversion out there.

BTW: Visit www.czforum.com (http://pub69.ezboard.com/bczechpistols82792). These guys are all huge CZ fans.

Joe Mamma, the Sig forum requires a login to read your thread and I don't feel like registering since I don't own a Sig. What was the problem with your CZ and what kind of service did you get from CZ USA?

Super Kick azz guns but nothing is perfect.

In about 1500 rounds I have had probably 4 failures to feed in my 75b mil.
2 of those were in the first 200 rounds.

It could have been my technique but to be safe I put Wolff +10% magazine springs and a 2lb heavier recoil spring than the factory. It is 110% now.

I changed the slick 'ergonomic' grips that came on my pistol for hogue wraparounds. The newer pistols come with better grips.

I have either owned or Shot rugers, 1911s, Sigs, S&W's, etc. and this is my favorite auto.

If I could change one thing it would be to redesign the safety to be a little more to the rear of the gun. But that I can live with.

DMK, sorry about that. The registration requirement at Sigforum is temporary and will not be necessary in another day or so. But, here is a cut and paste of my earlier post there.

I have a CZ 75B with the glossy blue finish. I bought it after hearing so many good things about CZ's on the internet.

I have had alot of problems with it. One of the roll pins in the slide broke because of dry firing the gun without a snap cap. I found out later that this is a known problem and this gun should not be fired without a snap cap. What bothers me is that I didn't dry fire the gun very much at all. Also, I have a problem with the slide frequently locking back prematurely (when there are still rounds in the magazine). I found out that this is also a well known problem. The three dot sights do not line up. The rear dots are crooked. I've never seen that on a gun before. Also, the finish is not very durable. The finish seems very thin and is wearing off in areas and, there is some corrossion on the back of the grip. This is despite me keeping a oil film on it. The single action trigger break is horrible.

Good points: The gun is very accurate (for this type of gun). It is definitely more accurate than my HK USP 9mm full size or Glock 17. The double action trigger pull is excellent. Ergonomics are excellent (for me).

But, take what I say with a grain of salt. I have a new brand Sig P226 that I have also been dissappointed with because of problems. So, maybe I am overly critical or I just have bad luck.

I had so many problems with the CZ that I don't like shooting it. I actually loaned it to a friend for the last few months. I'm glad I bought it because it was a learning experience. But, I would never buy another.

I bought the PCR model when it first came out, about 3 years ago and have
had great success with it. Absolutely flawless. Best I can say is I
trust my life with it's reliablity.
Buy one, you won't regret it.

Joe Mamma,

You must have gotten one a little older... They fixed the roll pin thing. Basically it's a roll pin with a smaller roll pin in it. I got my 75B a couple months ago, but it was manufactured in '02 and it has the mod. However, I wouldn't dry fire a pistol with an inertial firing pin without a snap cap anyway.

The finish, if you got the glossy, is just blued steel. Blueing is not much more than appearance, so it would be more prone to corrosion and rust. The polycoat finish is quite durable (don't use any harsh cleaning substances or it will melt off!)

The single action trigger does leave a little to be desired because of the take-up, but mine breaks clean at 4-5lb and the reset is clear and can be felt very easily. The double action pull, although LONG, is still pretty smooth, although I keep mine in Condition 1.

Mine has also locked the slide back with rounds in the mag twice in about 400 rounds I have through it so far. Both times it was with one of the factory 10rd mags. I have one 10rd EAA Witness mag, and got two 15rd mags, and marked the suspect mag. I'll hopefully give it a good testing soon. I've heard sometimes the follower can cause the rounds to stack funky. When I load the mags, I give it a good whack on something hard to seat the rounds back against the back of the mag. Hopefully my new 15rd mags will work well.

We'll see. Overall, I'm MORE than happy with the pistol. Very much bang for the buck. But the prices are going up... get 'em while they're hot. In a couple years, they might be going for more than $500....

Joe Mamma, thanks for posting the details and I'm sorry that you got such a problematic pistol. Mattew_Q seems to have covered it. I have also heard some problems with the glossy blue. Very pretty but not durable. However, the more common polycoat, while not as pretty is extremely durable. I frequently use brake cleaner on mine and even dropped it on concrete once with no ill effects.

I realize it's no consolation now, but I think you just got a bad one. Every factory has them and at least these aren't $1,200 pistols with problems.

I would try to contact CZ-USA about getting yours fixed. They don't have a large staff so they get overwelmed with work sometimes and that leads them to being abrupt and sometimes slow, but they will take care of you. I'd also recomend getting a trigger job while you have it there. Mike the gunsmith has a reputation for doing excellent work.

I would still recommend trying another, especially now that you know what to look for. I have two new and two old CZs. All work flawlessly. However, if they aren't for you, so be it. More for me! :D

I got a CZ75 compact a few weeks ago so it's still early yet, but so far so good. About 500 rounds fired and the trigger is getting better, which from what I hear is about right. No problems at all. Just got the .22 Kadet Kit in the mail today and while I haven't fired it yet, it fits fine without any work. Since I have the compact, the .22 Kadet slide is longer and the magazine sticks out the bottom, but that's to be expected.

I got rid of a CZ 75B about a year ago due mostly to a failure-to-feed problem. I got at least 1 FTF per mag, with both 10 round and 15 round mags. I replaced the 14# stock recoil spring with a Wolff 16#, but continued to have the same FTF problems. It did, however, fix the tendancy of the gun to eject brass in a flat arc to the right. It's not polite to shower other people on the firing line with your brass. :)

It also shot low and slighty to the right. It wasn't just me, every person I let use it remarked on it.

Finally, the trigger felt horrible, but that was probably just me.

Regardless of all that, I still liked the pistol, and will be buying a 97B soon.

My CZ-75BD 9mm is my favorite shooter. It eats every thing I feed it,goes BANG every time I pull the trigger, and puts a hole where I point it.I also have a CZ-75B .40 S&W, a 9mm PCR, and a CZ-83 .380 ACP. You can spend more money on a gun but you won't get more gun for your money.

My CZ 75B has been nothing less than superb: outstanding accuracy, reliability, durability, and quality. Bought a few years ago NIB for $319 (with two 15 round magazines); that has to be my “best value” ever in a handgun purchase.

2500 rounds and only 1 FTF, and that was my fault. I hit the mag release button. Solid gun, minimal recoil, fairly low maintanence. what little it does need you can usually do on your own.

It sounds like you've nominated a real winner. But be warned, my friend, the second that gun hits your hand you'll have to have it. You may want to have the cash on hand so that you won't have to let go of it. It will probably help to be ambidextrous to fill out the forms. :D

Seriously though, that's one real winner of a pistol. I'm gonna get one as soon as possible.

Cheers, and welcome to the Wonderful World of Handguns!

My CZ75 in 40 had a problem extracting. Read a post about taking the extractor out and cleaning it and now she's 100 percent again. I will be buying a new spring. Does anyone know what weight spring for the 40 smith and wesson model? What springs do you use in the mags?

18 or 20# should run perfectly in the 40.......................

XP 5 or 10% mag springs will work just perfectly also....

BTW...USE WOLFF SPRINGS...........................

I have a CZ75BD with 32,000 rounds through it. The only weak spot is the howoll roll pin the retains the firing pin. This pin broke at about 11,000 rounds. CZ Mike Eagleshield sent a new one at no cost. They should us a solid roll pin like SIG uses. Other than that it is a great pistol. Smooth DA/SA trigger, handles like a dream and is very accuarate.
