Well, for getting five Colt SAs, each at a relative $9000, that doesn't seem so bad...mind you, they won't be gracing MY wall any time soon, but consider:

1. Each one is hand-engraved. With Ivory grips and gold embellishment. Materials ALONE on these things probably ran a couple grand apiece!

2. A matching set of FIVE?!? Two, I can see, but FIVE? That's just CRAZY beautiful!

3. They're Colts, so it's not as though you're looking at depreciation being a problem.

Now, that being said, notice also that NO ONE has stepped up to the plate, as of 0645, to say, "Hey, I'm independently wealthy, love guns, and can't live without these...!"

That price doesn't seem too bad for the new Sig 1911... :)

For THAT kind of money, you buy a plane ticket and fly over to take a look at them before your purchase!

Are they even real Colts? If so, are they old ones or new ones? 45 kilobucks for pimped-out SAA clones is a scam.

New Colts as of 1987.

Book at about $4,500 WITHOUT the engraving, for the set with case and badge.
Set retailed for $7,500 at time of issue.

P.S. any idea how many M58s and M57s that would buy??

I wouldn't pay a nickel over $42,875.34 for those pistols!

Cheaper to buy your own Colt and commission an engraver to have at it.

If I bought them, I'd shoot 'em. Dennis

Now why would someone go and ruin a perfectly good pistol with all that lacy girly rubbish.

That's over $8,000 EACH for engraving done by one guy in the style of another guy.

Seems awfully steep any way I look at em.

Guys,
45K is the opening bid. The reserve may be much higher than that!

Ya know, once a group of us went to Prima, a very nice restaurant in Walnut Creek, CA. We're looking through the wine list, some of the best and rarest bottles were $8000. My buddy exclaimed, "That's for the guy who comes in here already drunk, and says 'I want the most expensive bottle of wine in the house!'"

Somewhere, someone will inherit a bunch of money, or hit the lotto and say, "I'm gonna buy the MOST expensive gun on Gunbroker!"

And that situation, I expect, is what those revolvers are for.

Of course, another way to look at it - $45,000 will here buy you five revolvers, but only half of a new Holland & Holland:neener:

My best guess is that these were commisioned "in the white" out of the custom shop (hence the serial numbers), then engrqaved and finished. I dont know the engraver, nor his charges, but the finisher, Doug Turnbull, is one of the finest out there and he is well worth the money. On the other hand, I think you would have a cost of about $4000-5000 per gun which is what I would run em at if anyone wanted such a set...

Woulda made more sense to start with 3" bl and go up- of course, that would have been more work for the engraver! :)

"Those snubby bbls just don't look raght on a hoglaig!"

Agreed. And I love snubs... but that just isnt right. On a SAA, 4 is the shortest you should go. Still nice collection - even if it is one without any history or anything... Sure, they are works of art... and I can appreciate that... maybe in the 20,000 range at the absolute top end.

I bought a NIB 3rd Generation Colt SAA "Sheriff's Model" 3" .44/40-.44 Special in 1981.

It was a GREAT winter coat pocket gun and was the best pointing SA that I have ever found.
