Hello, long time reader, first time posting. This is a great site!
I was wondering if anybody can tell me what the black coating on Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silvertip is? I know the verdict is still out on bullet coatings and I would like to know what this stuff is before I put it down a failry new bore?

Thanks,

Chris

It is not moly (which is supposed to trap moisture) according to the website. Lubealox - I think it is called.
I have used combined technology bullets and have not noticed any ill effects.
The bullets in question are made by Nosler, take a look at the web page.

I don't know what it is, but I've used a lot of them in the past few years (over 5000). I have seen no ill effects either.

It is my opinion, I get less copper fouling when using them, compared to a standard exposed copper jacketed bullet.

I shot a couple of the 95 gr factory rounds in a pre-64 M70 in 243win that sprayed them all over the place, this right after making a dime sized group with the factory 100 gr power points. I'm told they take about 20 or so just like molly bullets to settle the bore in. But not every rifle is the same and some shoot great from the first shot. I don't remeber there being any thing special about cleaning it afterwards though.

I've used the Combined Technologies ballistic silvertips in reloads for years. Lubalox has no detrimental affect IMO. Clean the bore just like any othe bullets. You'll get less copper and the first few patches will come out black from the coating.

Thank you to each of you for your responses. I would hate to ruin a brand new gun/barrel.

Thanks again!
