Okay the big one has occurred ( plauge, metors, Kerry gets elected ) and you have become Mad Max. But you only get to choose four firearms - any kind. ( Please don't nitpick, I know that there would be lots of guns laying around, this is my posting ).

Well after giving it much time I have concluded that I would take a stainless steel Ruger Redhawk in 44 magnum with 5.45 inch barrel. A Smith and Wesson Model 649 for back up. A Remington 870 police shotgun and a Marling Model 1894 in 44 magnum with a 20 inch barrel.

The 44 can be used on most deer size game, but is a thumper. It's plentiful and the 44 special can be used as well. The Marlin can take a scope but it's a strong rifel as is the Ruger. The Remington is manuverable, but can also be used to tke game as well as be useful in combat. Mind you this is being praticale, not playing a character in a role playing fantasy.

Well - since this is a trip thru fantasy land, here goes: :D

1) A good quality 1911 Pistol - best pistol for close in work available
2) An AR-15 type rifle chambered in .308 - good for both combat and hunting
3) Rem M870 12Ga - hunting and personal protection
4) Scoped Win M70 Black Shadow in .308 - long range sniping and hunting

But why stop there. We're talking post apocalyptic right? (sorry I just can't resist the possibilities) ;)

For close in work as required - 11" Bowie with High Carbon Steel Blade with leather grip.

A sword, scimitar style - 24" to 30" blade (more compact than longsword and equally good at stabbing and slashing).

A gps receiver (assuming the sattelites weren't all blown out of the sky)
A good compass
Light, quality nylon rope
Plently of matches - the kind you can strike on anything

I'd high tail it to the nearest NG Armory and try to get hold of an M3 (Recon version of Bradley IFV). Load it up with plenty of MRE's, water purification tablets, sleeping bag, best body armor I could find, other goodies depending on availability, hand pump for fuel, ammo for above weapons and ammo for the .50 cal and 20mm cannons on the Brad. I'd expect fuel would be available at the numerous undestroyed gas stations around still in the underground tanks (thus the handpump).

Then I'd Grab up a couple of comely wenches looking for protection.

Next I'd gather up a few like minded individuals with Brad's of their own, head for Mexico and establish ourselves as local warlords - or die trying. :fire:

YeeeeeeHaaa!

For me the choice is pretty simple. I'd choose the guns that I've been trained on and shoot well.

1) Factory fresh M-16A1 with 10 loaded 30 rd magazines. 4 magazines would be loaded with FMJ ammo, 3 mags would be loaded with tracers and 3 mags would be loaded with AP ammo.

2) Glock 17 with 4 loaded 17 rd magazines. All mags will have 115gr +P JHP ammo.

3) S&W Model 67 .38 Special revolver fully loaded with 158gr +P LSWCHP rounds and 2 speed loaders with the same.

4)I'd give up the 4th firearm for either extra ammo for my pistols and rifle or 4 fragmentation hand grenades.

Hope to the almighty that I have some kind of vehicle for mobility or else i'd be reduced to marching speed with the above combat load. :o During reservist call-ups, I only have 1) and 4) to lug around and I can only sprint for 100 yards before being TOTALLY winded.

Well if we're talking about al the accessories I'd get myself a hard top Humveee ( the kind that TOW gunners use ), and one of those two wheel trailers. I'd be loaed up with MRE's, first aid equipment, tools, reloading equipment, GPS, maybe some Claymores, grenades, a couple man portable rocket launchers, and probably a M240 GPMG. And of course lets not forget the various edged weaponry.

No seriously I was just thinking about personal weaponry. I know that there would be alot of other logistics to think about and of course there would be a fair amount of military hardware available to pick up. This is just something that I found myself thinking about at 3:00 A.M. - insomina.

I've fired all these weapons and while they aren't my favorite I think that you can become compentent with most types with practice.

Well, surprise, surprise.

My handgun of choice would be my Ruger Old Army. When things got really dicey, I know enough to be able to mix my own black powder and even make my own caps if I could snag a few chemicals.

Same reasoning for the rifle, albeit I don't own one yet: a good example of a blue ridge flintlock. By all accounts they were extremely accurate.

HOWEVER, until the ammunition ran out I would also want

A 30-06 to take care of heavy chores in North America, and I suppose my M1 Garand would make do.

A simple, reliable, and accurate .22 bolt action rifle, and I suppose my Mossberg M44 would do.

(IF anyone guesses that I like C&R firearms, you're right.)

make the decision to fight everybody else trying to devour the MG armory(s)?

Me?

1911/AR/lever 3030 to star and whatever I can tote in whatever transport I can muster.

Your scenario works if you are reactive immediatley after the "problem" and before others wake up to the fact that they may have to fight for existance.

Not knocking it - just planting a seed. :) Oh, don't forget water.

Okay the big one has occurred ( plauge, metors, Kerry gets elected ) and you have become Mad Max. But you only get to choose four firearms - any kind.

1) CZ-97B as a sidearm

2) M249 Minimi as a personal defense weapon

3) Browning M2 as a vehicle/home defense weapon

4) CZ452 .22 LR for plinking. :D

1. Ruger Blackhawk .357/9mm convertible, the single handgun capable of firing the highest percentage of available ammo.

2. AR-15, 16" barrel, for social work.

3. Remington 870

4. Any reliable .22 rifle.

This would be a no brainer for me.

1)Bolt action .308 in Scout configuration with a 2x scope.

2)Ar-15, 16" or 18" A2 with as many 20 & 30 round mags as possible.

3)Glock 21 .45acp with a few 13 round mags and a good holster (Comp-Tac comes to mind)

4)A quality .22 cal. bolt action repeater along the lines of a Remington or a CZ with a full length suppresed barrel that should not be longer than 19". Peep sights would be fine for this one.

I would like to throw a 12 gauge shotgun into the mix, as I think it is the most versitile gun in the world, but if limited to 4, the above would do fine.

November 6, 2003, 07:19 PM
Lots of you have stated you'd take a 22 Rifle. I don't get it.

With a centerfire at least there exists the possibility of reloading. Hell it's not all that hard to make smokeless powder though making primers might be a little difficult.

BUT 22 rimfire ammo? diffiicult to make if not impossible and besides it's value for hunting is limited too.

So what gives - in a post apocalyptic world I just don't see a 22 having much utility.

1. 1911 in .45acp of course. I've already got one that'd do nicely. +lotsa mags.

2. AR-15 16" barrel. 8-10 mags at least.

3. scout type .308 caliber rifle. preferably bolt action.

4. Shotgun of some sort, preferably an autoloader.

lotsa ammo. water is essential of course.

November 6, 2003, 08:02 PM
Many folks like the 22lr and 22 short and 22 long because of the round count vs weight. If you take all the components for reloading and whatever you plan to use to assemble the round you most likely could have a few hundred centerfire rounds or a few thousand rimfire rounds.

There is also a noise consideration in my opinion. The less noise you make the less attention you attract. Some of the 22 cb rounds would be nice to have along as well.

I always change choices on what guns I would take so I skip that, a search will turn up a few previous answers.

These threads are like drinking fountains; I just can't seem to pass them by without stopping... Anyway:

1. A .22 semi-auto rifle, because you can carry so much ammo, and you'll see a lot more squirrels or rabbits than, say, elk.

2. One shotgun, 12-gauge pump. For birds, small game, hut defense, and even slug capability.

3. One high-cap rifle for unfriendly encounters. Probably AR-15 or AK-47. Each has its advantages, and my choice would depend on what I had for breakfast that day.

4. One scoped rifle in .30-06 or .308. For long distance use on game or bad guys who were shooting at my hut.

2) Rifle - HK G-3 w/detachable claw type scope mount. Tritium sights.

If the world were to end due to nuclear war, I like to think that it would do so at the height of the Cold War, not today. In that case, I would want a S&W 1917, a Colt Government Model, and a M3A1 Grease gun. That way, I only need to worry about finding and carrying one type of ammo.

Full-auto Browning 1919, my SAR-1, a ROMAK-3, and a CZ-52. Mostly Comblock stuff for the pure heck of it :p :D

For a more domestic blend, probably the Browning 1919, a Benelli Nova H2O, an FN M249, and a Glock 18c. Wait, those are still mostly European...:uhoh:

Okay, here we go. Browning 1919, Thompson M1, and 2 1911s. In a Mad Max situation, you need reliable stuff. :D

After the apocalypse comes, I'd want what the heroes use in this story. (http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1023032) One guy packs a Ruger Super Blackhawk and a regular Blackhawk that's custom chambered for .44 Special and carries a 10-gauge or a Winchester '94 as a long arm. Another has a customized Colt National Match and carries a Thompson or an M1. Another has a Royal Blued Python and packs an M60. The last has a Smith & Wesson 39, an Uzi, and an M79 grenade launcher. It's a pretty cheesy, pulpy story, but a lot of the gun stuff is right at home here.

A few of the first chapters are a little muddled and need to be rewritten, and will be soon, in case that throws you off.

Woooh...

This would be kinda tough, as I feel if someone saw you hauling around some nice rifles on your backpack, he would not hesitate to take them for himself.

Sooo...

I would take ONE 14.5 inch M4 with a flat top & BUIS + micro ACOG.
A collapsable stock is also mandatory.
If their is room a Ceiner 22LR kit with 2 magazines.
Supressor
It would be carried broken down and hidden in a backpack.

I would also take a concealed 9mm, preferably a XD40 or similar reliable 9mm pistol.

Any quality made replica flintlock pistol, preferably as modern as a flintlock pistol can be in .45 caliber + a bullet mold.
This way, when we are all out of centerfire ammunition I can make natural blackpowder and use lead wheel weights off of cars to keep shooting.

One Cricket .22LR or similar *SMALL* bolt action 22LR rifle with threads to accept the M4's supressor.
This would be the gun I would tote around unconcealed. (supressor OFF unless I am DEEP in the woods) If someone was to ambush me, I would be in some ????... but then again I wouldnt want to attract attention with a nice centerfire semi auto in the first place. It would only come out of my backpack when I am ambushing or have the need to assemble it.

Since three guns I am taking are very small, I would also reward my foresight with a nice cleaning kit and several bottles of oil.

I have everything covered.

Big game? Shoot it in the face with the AR15
Medium game? Shoot it in the neck with the AR15
Small game? Ceiner 22LR or Bolt action, shoot it in the face

Being Ambushed? XD-9, 2 in the chest one in the head
Ambushing people? Supressed AR15 in the chest
Ambushing a person sleeping/ drunk? Ceiner 22LR at 10 ft with supressor.

If im feeling nostalgic I could whip out the black powder pistol and shoot stuff in the face. Im pretty sure it would die too.
